Hi everybody, maybe somebody can help me here. im in my third week of induction because after the first week i didnt lose anything more. but I think i screwed up because i have been drinking atkins shakes for breakfast on my early days at work. I thought i was staying under 20 grams a day but i just read that the shakes have sugar alchols. Has this screwed everything up? anyone

No, sugar alcohols don't impact blood sugar, but you might be screwing up because they are a substitute for something you probably should be eating but not from the sugar alcohols according to Dr. Atkins. They do keep some from losing, they don't seem to affect me much and I drink one every day on the way to work--ok so only 5 days a week--but I know of some people who can't drink them at all, even if they are staying under the carb limit. How did your second week go? Was there a significant loss in weight or inches? They might be keeping you from losing if you haven't seen either happen yet.

Sugar alcohols are a problem for many people. I don't think the canned shakes have them. Why don't you post your menu so you can get some help.

It's best to go onto OWL instead of staying on induction. There are several threads that address this.

Meg,

The shakes don't have sugar alcohols in them, but the bars...ah, that's another story. They have those and glycerine, which stalls a lot of people, including me. And huskersfan, some sugar alcohols can impact blood sugar.

Terra's right, we need more info. Give us an idea of what you're eating, and how much you have to lose. These factors can help us help you.

Keep in mind, too, that after induction, a stall is normal. It's your body readjusting. Frustrating, yes, but nothing to worry about.

Hang in there!

Thanks so far sounds good, my menu per day usually consists of
eggs w/bacon and cheese
chicken salad w/mayo
whole cucumber w/2tsp of blue cheese or 3 cups salad
meat(chicken, pork, beef) usually no more than 12oz. I know that i have went a bit over the cheese limit on occassion but i have written everything down and most days im under 20 per day. the first week i lost about 15 or so pounds then i stalled for the past two weeks. i drink plenty of water and nothing else. i drink the shakes with a morning start bar about twice a week. Once a week i have to be at work at 3am so my schedule gets messed up. i have checked my ketosticks and for a couple of nights i was burning fat but lately no. any suggestions anyone

You already lost 15 pounds! Give your body a chance to catch up. That's a lot of weight. 15 pounds in three weeks is still a lot. I'd say keep eating the best you can but skip the bars and shakes if you can. Especially the bars.

Yep, 15lbs is a LOT!!!! don't expect that rate of loss to continue.

You need to add more Veggies!!!!

I don't find that the Atkins shakes stall me. The bars do. I don't eat them anymore.

I'm a chronic insomniac. I often get up for the day at 3:30 a.m. and that can be a problem. If you wait too long for breakfast that's bad. If you eat breakfast at 4:00 a.m. your eating schedule is totally messed up for the day. 2 Things I found helped me in these situations.
1. Keep net carbs to 10 to 15 per meal or 1/3 of your total allotment.
2. On days you get up really early split your breakfast into 2 meals.

I find these 2 steps even out my blood sugar and I don't get cravings I might get if I didn't follow them. HTH

If you've done induction for 2 weeks, move on!!!! Check out the sticky in the Atkins Ongoing Weightloss forum, "An Unreasonable fear of OWLS." Don't be afraid to add more veggies, no one EVER got fat eating LC veggies. Ever. I did induction for 3 weeks and only lost 6 lbs. When I added more veggies and salad, the weight started coming off again. Slowly, but it started to move again. I had the infamous 3 week stall and was afraid to move along. Thanks to this board and very sage advice, I kept going and so did the fat.
