3 weeks in to LC in general, I'm not following any strict plan, just drastically reducing carbs. I'm happy with weight loss and lifestyle.

I'm posting this b/c when I was considering LC I really appreciated the unique experiences of those on this board, it really helped me to see that LC was right for me.

I just survived 3 days of vacation including a 17 hour bachelor party and the Super Bowl. The worst thing I ate was a half a bag of salted peanuts at an NBA game (like I was going to pay 6.25 for a burger patty). This would have been unthinkable for me on any other diet, so I sat down and tried to think about why I think I can stick with this WOL.

1. Most diets demand hunger. I cannot imagine the rest of my life being frequently hungry. On LC I eat till I'm full when I'm hungry.

2. Most diets require sticking strictly to particular foods in particular measurements. I'm way too lazy for that, on LC I can open the fridge and pull something out.

3. It's easier not to binge on LC food. The very nature of low carb food (meat, veggies, cheese)makes it less practical to binge. Most people binge on desserts, chips, etc. Those don't exist anymore to me.

4. To me it's a game. The fundamental difference b/t LC and other WOL's is that the others are about deprivation, and LC is about choices (my opinion, I know). I just have to choose certain foods I like. It's so much easier to not eat certain things when you have so many good tasting options.

If you're considering LC, I believe a lot of it is about fit. For my lifestyle and food preferences LC is a good fit, for others it might not be.

You know, your #3 rings sooo true. I can't recall a time, being LC, where I've binged on say, a pound of cheese. But back in the nasty-old-days, a pound of M&Ms was no problem. That's a great way of looking at it!!

Cheers!

I love your name as well!

This WOE is easier than most. For the most part, I stick to Atkins, but sometimes I am in a situation where I am trapped and will turn my ONE PARTICULAR MEAL into a "Zone" Meal.

This helps me to not beat myself up and gives me the flexibility I need sometimes. (I would say this meal happens about once a month.)

I get to have a taste of something, while keeping the carb count low. And, I give myself permission NOT to feel guilty. It was a controlled carb portion, usually a quarter of a cup.

Very freeing feeling. This works for me. YMMV.

When I think about the whole bags of Hershey's Toffee Treasures I would eat while on Maternity Leave last spring - UGH!

I think you summed it up beautifully. You point are very true. I measure things but I know I don't really have to. I am just interested in does it make a difference. Guess what it doesn't but it is a habit now.
