I have been on Atkins before and am giving it another shot..the last time my blood chemisty was Cholesterol a little higher with good Cholesterol better, triglicerides much lower, but my uric acid levels were high. What does this mean? I saw in the book if uric acid levels were high to add carbs. On induction I should not be over 20. Thanks Mollym

High uric acid in my DH gives him gout. He had a problem with gout when he drank alcohol and had a BAD junk food-filled diet. (He has now been sober for 6 1/2 years. Yay! Can't really say he is eating better!)

Every once in a while, when he eats rich foods now, his big toe will start hurting from gout. To make the pain go away, he has to add vegetables and salads to his meals for the next couple of days. It helps almost immediately.

I have never heard of ADDING carbs to your diet to help it.

The uric acid collects in the lowest points in your body, like your fingers or toes.

Definitely ask your doctor about this!

Thank-you for your replies..I did not ask my doctor because I came home with my lab work results. Uric acid was high but not outrageously so. Doctor was looking at Chloresterol levels at that time. Adding carbs for uric acid in Dr. At.New diet rev. pg.127. I don't have a gout problem also do not drink alcohol at all. We always eat our allowed vegetables and salad.

For the blood work I was to be fasting since midnight. I was not consuming the amount of water that I am now. I am reaching for 128 oz. I feel like I am floating. Thank-you.
