i had a a question, i've seen a couple posts in here saying if you are in induction and you go over the 20, if it's veggies it shouldn't mess you up.. i'm just asking if that's correct? cuz,it would be so great to be able to have two cups of broccoli or spinach a day instead of just one....i'm not big on the salad thing, but i love the other veggies...

My advice would be "do not hesitate!" I've never heard of anyone losing their ketosis from eating larger amounts of LOW CARB veggies, such as spinach, cauliflower, broccoli, etc.

Enjoy.

I never paid attention to the two cups, one cup veggie rule. I count the carbs, but they have so much fiber that it's really hard to get too many carbs with just veggies.

And I suppose you don't really need to count...I just find it makes it more of a game to know where I'm at.

I say go for it, so long as you aren't overdoing the rest of your carbs.

If the rest of your carbs are good ones -- veggies, the few you get from meats, a bit of cheese -- by all means, eat as many dark green leafy things as you like. BUT, don't think that since you didn't really have any "other carbs" that you can have a low carb candy bar or something...

I tracked everything on www.fitday.com during induction (still do) and found I needed to have 2 or 3 cups of high fiber veggies to even reach 20 net carb grams. and even if you went to 25 the worst that might happen is you would take an extra day to reach ketosis.

Veggies are wonderful things. So eat lots. But I believe in following the rules 20 carb is 20 net carbs. You count the veggies. It does take a lot of veggies to amount to 20 carbs (if you only get carbs from veggies). 3 sticks of celery is still 2+ carbs. If you don't you will over do it. You see my problem is I can eat over 20 carbs a day in allowable veggies.

I'm with Maggie on this one...ya just can't go wrong eating lots of fiber-rich, low-glycemic veggies, all the better if you love them and look forward to them! It will keep you from getting bored with your food selections.

I've been uping my carbs over the past few days, and to kill the fear (I was doing 5-10gms of carbs a day), I've just been writing down what I've been eating during the day, and totalling the carbs last thing at night in bed. I had a bit of a freakout as I thought I would have to be over carbs with these big plates of veges I've been having..Nope Its still been around the 20-25gm mark, and I've even managed 2 pounds in weightloss as well

GO FOR IT!!
