| 2 questions... 2. The Kesostix measure if you are burning fat right...Do they only measure buring body fat? Or might it only indicate you are burning the increased fat in your diet (since you have fewer carbs to burn). Does pink mean you're actually losing EXISTING fat? 2. I've never understood the whole water weight thing. If you drink tons of water each day, how can any weight loss be water weight. If anything it seems like I'm taking in a bit more sodium meaning I'm carrying MORE water weight. Thanks a lot for your input!! |

| When your body doesn't get enough water it begins to retain it. Think of it as a person who rarely gets fed. When they do, they will probably keep it so they have a supply to last for awhile. Your body is the same way with water. However, when you are giving it a lot of water their is no reason to retain. Your body does not feel threatened that it won't have enough water. Our bodies are smart!!! Good luck all!! Seesko 242/230/135 "What my mind can envision; my body can master!" |

| In addition when you begin this diet the induction period is designed to deplete your body's glycogen stores. each gram of glycogen is stored with 3 grams of water. In order to achieve ketosis you must deplete much of your glycogen stores. And with it goes that water. But after induction when you're in ketosis, there might be any number of factors affecting water weight gain or loss. Not drinking enough water, as seesko mentioned, is one reason. Excess salt another. Rob 310/230.5/180 Me, a skeptic? I trust you have proof. |

The answer is probably dependant on wether you are loosing weight or not, ie. if you are loosing weight, you know that the ketones came from your body fat. | #1 - Ditto paladin - you really don't know except to see results in your waistline! #2 - Ditto Rob. And in addition to that, your body often uses water as a "place saver" until lost fat is restored. I.E. - Let's say you lose 2 pounds of body fat. Your body sees this and thinks "hey, I better save that spot so I have a place to put some fat as soon as I get some excess energy" - and to "save" this spot, your body deposits water in place of the fat. Of course, your body doesn't realize you're trying to lose this fat PERMENANTLY, you don't plan on gaining it back. So, after a time (how long? who knows? it varies depending on lots of factors) you body figures out that the fat isn't coming back so it goes ahead and releases the water since there is no reason to "save" the space. This is what we often call a "whoosh" and the reason why we sometimes lose 2-3 pounds overnight - the body has decided to finally give up that water it was using to "save" a spot for new fat. I hope that made sense! I'm really tired, I better go to bed! ![]() Member since 2001 My Sunroof |
