Hi I'm new to the Atkins Induction Phase. I've been on it for a week and so far I've lost 5.5 (Started at 209.5). My question is, should I be measuring portions too?

Just a question, did you buy the book? Have visited the Atkins website yet? If not, where did you you get your idea to start on Atkins?

Yes I bought the Atkins books, tapes etc. The reason I was asking about portion control is because I just read about one of the LCE members measuring her portions while doing Atkins. I thought on Induction you can have enough meats, eggs until you feel satisfied and not have to deal with portion control.

Honestly... I can say that the one reason I love the LCL is that there is no portion measuring and counting calories. I know that we have to watch our carb numbers, but honestly after awile.. your brain and body are working together and it's so easy! Just try to keep away from the bad fats and try to eat some lean meat and you should be okay. If you are eating vegetables as most of your carbs, then you should be generally on the right track!

Good luck and welcome to the forum!

Usually you don't have to look at portions. There are some unique cases where people have an unusually high resistance, and it helps. Also towards the end, if you have problems with the last 5-10 pounds, you might have to try it.

Basically, as long as you are not having some type of problems with the diet, I don't think it is necessary.

I echo what Paladin said. However, there was also someone on these boards back in the day (a long, long time ago) who ate protein to excess. We're talkin' five burgers from Chik-fil-A in one sitting, along with chicken as well as a pork chop. Another member of these boards pointed out (not so tactfully) that all of that protein can and will turn straight to glucose.

I remember Andrea's response well. Believe it. (The response triggered a not so nice backlash).

Anyway, while portion-watching are not part of the Atkins plan, per se, it is a wise person who doesn't go overboard.

    Yanno?

    welcome w2.

About the only portion control to worry about during the atkins induction is for the allowed foods that do have carbs, like heavy cream (max 2-3 tbsp/day) and cheeses (max 4 oz/day).

Just remember to eat until you're full and no more.

If you're in a habit of eating very quickly (I know I was), slow down and take smaller bites - you'll find that you fill much faster and thus end up eating less - up to the point you're full.

And, in the words of Dr. Atkins, If you're hungry, eat. If you're starving, you should have eaten two hours ago.

When I started Atkins I was so used to TRYING to eat low fat that i was accustomed to eating huge portions of veggies. I had to really cut my portions to what Atkins outlines in his book or I would have been way over 20 grams of carbs because of too many veggies. I;m still in Induction and still measuring veggies and saladgreens religiously.
    Just my 2 cents

    Joonezgrl,
If you have been on induction since january 19, then you need to start adding more carbs into your diet. If you continue on only 20 carbs/day your body will do what it does with low far - become resistant to letting go.
I know it sound strange but it is true and you can start with a little fruit - berries, strawberries, etc. or a few nuts. At Atkins .com you will find a listing of the power of 5, what you can eat that contains roughly 5 net carbs. You need to add 5 per day each week after induction until you stop losing then back off till you start lowing again that will be you level to continue on.
