Hi all. I have been lurking around here for about 2 months, but just now getting the nerve up to post. Here is my story, it might be long, but I would appreciate any help you might have for me :-)

Started locarb in June 2003. I had lost 30lb's low fat, but was totally unsatisfied and stalled. My starting weight was 262.5 in April 2003, so my starting weight for Adkins was about 230. I have since lost another 40lbs's but went off Adkins Thanksgiving and have had a terrible time getting back on. I have another 50 lbs's to lose, so this is very maddening to me. Also, I have never gone on past induction. I think I should go back on induction because I have been off for so long, but after reading here, maybe that has been part of my problem, I have been on induction too long? My goal weight is 145 and I had hoped to get there by July of this year. I have gone along with some of the Challanges on this board, but never posted. Maybe now I will be brave. You all have been so encouraging to me, even though you didn't know I was here! I hope some of you have some advice to get me started again. I don't know how to do my weight thingy at the bottom, but my stats are 262.5/198.5/145

    Dani:

Welcome, and thank you for de-cloaking yourself.

Were I in your shoes, I'd start just a little above Induction levels. I wouldn't go through Induction again. Some people have had the experience that if they go through Induction more than once, then their body gets used to 20 carbs per day and it's difficult to tolerate adding more back in.

I'd simply eat a lot of vegetables and a portion of protein at each meal. After one week, re-weigh and measure yourself, and see where you are.

Remember to drink water. At your weight, you should drink at least 100 ounces of water each day. Limit yourself to 4 ounces of cheese per day (the real kind...nothing pasturized or processed), eat at least 3 cups of veggies per day, stay awy from low carb bars and candies, and post often, give us advice and your take on things, and let us know how you're doing.

Congratulations on your success thus far. We look forward to hearing more from you.

    Hey Dani and WELCOME!

    You have done REALLY well!

I agree with everything that April has suggested.
Sometimes, when we have lost a LOT of weight (as you have), our bodies sort of *stall out*. This is a MUCH NEEDED adjustment time for your body and you basically need to just ignore the scale and keep on, keeping on.
Believe me, I KNOW this can be very frustrating, but stopping and starting this woe (way of eating) is NOT going to speed up your weight loss, either.

Just stick with your plan and TRY to ignore the scale if it's not moving.
DO MAKE SURE you are drinking plenty of water. This is a huge mistake a lot of people make. If you don't drink adequate water, your weight loss is sure to stall out...

Also, are you exercising at all?
This might be a good time to start incorporating some strength-building workouts (to speed up long-term metabolism) and add some cardio to help get the fat moving.

    HTH,

    Summer

hello dani, welcome.. i tried the atkins diet in 1998 and lost alot of weight from it.. i never really weighed myself but i was so happy with my body and the way my clothes would fit me.. but then i got pregnant and forget about it.. i gained all the weight back.. well i started again on 2/1 and everything is going too.. even though the scales don't show weight loss my clothes fit better and my stomach seems flatter.. so that's good enough for me.. good luck!

Thank you for all of your encouragement. I walk about 2.5 miles per day, and I am trying to do pilates. I usually drink about 5 liters of water per day, but that has been slacking lately. Thank you, Summer, you are right, going on and off this woe doesn't help the weight loss, it doesn't help my moods either! Today is a new day and all has gone well. I have been wanting to add weights to my workouts, so maybe I will try a Firm video. I am open to any fun exercise suggestions. When it gets warmer it will be easier because we will be outside more as a family.

Hi Dani!!!! Welcome to LCE and glad you have de-lurked. It's great to have with us, actively. Have you read the Beginner's Guide up there at the top of the page? If you haven't, I would suggest you do that. Do you have the book of your plan choice. Maybe brush up on it is in order. April and Summer have given you some sound advice.

    again, Welcome!!!!

    Welcome to the boards!

Fun exercise! Well that is definitly the kind I like! LOL So this is what I do and plan to do for "fun" exercise! I go roller skating, I went dancing last week (want to do more of that), in april I am going to join a belly dancing dance. Then for the summer semester I am going to join a martial arts class at collage. That should keep me fit for a while! Oh.. and also every now and then me and the family will go to the college to go swimming.

I like things that trick my mind into thinking it just fun and not exercise! lol
