Hi Julie,

I have put together a little spreadsheet that you can use if you have Excel on your machine and a tape measure in your hand. DISCLAIMER: This estimator is not very accurate if you have a long way to goal, or if you're especially tall or short, or if the moon is in Sagittarius. Sorry!

There are also many other calculators available - try a google search. They will all give you different numbers, but what's really important is to follow a trend over time.

If you already have a number for body fat percentage, here's how the numbers go:

Total mass multiplied by body fat percentage equals fat mass. Example: 154 lb (total mass) * 34% (body fat %) = 52.4 lb (fat mass)

Total mass minus fat mass equals lean mass. Example: 154 lb - 52.4 = 101.6 lb lean mass. You'll probably be working in kilos, but the operations are the same.
