I just read on the OWL section that tomatoes are high glycemic. How much, if any, tomatoes can I have on this WOE??

I have been eating some daily in my salads both at lunch and at dinner and then some on the side with mayonnaise for dinner.

    HELP

If you are on Atkins induction - DO NOT have tomatoes! They will definately slow down weight loss, that and onions as I discovered when DH was making my salads. Wait til OWL to add these back in, and then sparingly. If you don't have the DANDR book, please get it, it really is something you refer to constantly (even while in OWL like I have been for the past year).

Good luck - keep drinking your water (half your weight in ounces every day)!!!

After low carbing for nearly six years now, I still find that I cannot eat tomatoes very often. They have too much natural sugar in them. I eat two slices about once per month. Same for onions. Cooked carrots, I've found, do not bode well with me and weight loss. Raw carrots are better tolerated for my circumstances, but only every so often.

Agian, everybody and every body are different. You must find what works for you, and then do it.

Tomatoes are a little high glycemic but if you put a little in a salad served with a nice high fat dressing as a prelude to dinner (high protein/fat) you'll lessen the glycemic load considerably.

I've been doing fine with tomatoes, onions, and raw carrots as long as I stay within my carb allowance. As Rob says, when eaten with fat and protein the glycemic impact sort of averages out.

Tomatoes are a nutritious choice too. Since you started in January you're not in induction any more, so it seems to me a reasonable thing for you to be eating. Watch and see how they affect you.

I've been low carbing for almost a year now and I only do a little bit of tomato and carrot once in awhile. I probably do onions more often, tho, but mainly to flavor stews, meats, soups and the like. But when burger cooking season starts when the weather gets better, I may do a bit more than usual. Who knows, maybe by then I will be at goal. But if you are just starting or have a lot to lose, I would shy away from those at least for awhile.

I have eaten tomatoes (and onions) since I started. They are both allowed on induction. As long as I stay at or under my carb totals for the day and get at least 3 cups of vegis, I haven't had a problem with them stalling me. It is most definatly a YMMV kind of thing
