This morning i woke up thinking,,,maybe i will stick to low fat.
i threw out all sugar last night..and the garbage man took it away this morning..so in my coffee i put atkins hazel nut sweetener...
while sipping my coffee i began to think of the bad things in my mind regarding atkins...
all meat....blah blah
no bagels, no sugar, no candy...

however i have cut my sugar down because my teeth hurt after eating it....
i drink diet soda...and eating low fat i am often hungry just an hour after a meal
my true challeng will be at night..i always want to snak while watching tv

however...i look at myself in the mirror, and i know most times i try to tell myself i dont look that bad, i know i have looked better and felt better
i have no energy most times and i work a gruely IT type job that glues my butt to the seat.

My sister went from weighing 200 pounds down to 130 in two and a half years...and that was with cheating every once in a while.
i guess i can do this for a month as a trial period
i have four daughters
ages 8 5-5 (one is step) and 18 month old
i want to have the energy to walk with them this summer...to jump on the trampoline ...swim and not be ashamed of my appearence in a swim suit
i want a new me...and this is the hardest challenge
so pardon me if i post a lot during my withdrawl
i already have a head ache....gonna be a long day

Hi! Just wanted to give you some encouragement. The first few days are tough! But if you stick it out...it is worth it!

I know how you feel regarding the headache. When I started Atkins I had a headache for 3 days. However, I kept drinking lots of water and taking lots of advil. I know it's difficult, but hang in there.

Also, remember to use this forum for support by asking questions and reading the posts and articles. Everyone is so motivated here on this forum and are willing to help. You've found a wonderful place here!!

Just keep believing in yourself and remember your're worth the effort.

Best Wishes,

Debbie

Atkins isn't all meat, anyway. We eat lots of good, fresh veggies on this diet. Have you read the book? If not, please read it--it will help a lot. You won't be nearly as hungry on this way of eating as on low fat. And guess what? Researchers are finding that fat is good for you; your body needs fat to operate.

You were thinking that Atkins is bad because it doesn't allow sugar or candy...but you will feel so much better when you're off of them. Just get through the first week and it gets much easier. You'll find that you don't even want the stuff you craved before.

motherof4,

Welcome to the boards, and congratulations on your upcoming marriage.

My impression from your posts is that you are looking to lose weight before the wedding, and that you want to feel and look better than you do now. If your goal is to crash diet for a month in an effort to see how much you can lose before the wedding, I'm afraid you won't find much support here for that idea no matter which approach you take.

But if your goal is to make meaningful and permanent changes in your weight and your health, you've come to the right place for help. The first thing to do is educate yourself about low-carbing so that you don't go around mistakenly thinking things like "Atkins is all meat"...it's not, and neither is any other legitimate low-carb program. It's really important to understand the prinicples and the science behind this way of eating, to optimize both your health and your weight loss.

I hope you'll take the time to read all you can about low-carbing so you can make an informed decision. I'd recommend the books for each plan, but failing that, this website is a wealth of information, and you can also learn a lot reading the Atkins site.

I have to say one more thing about your post here...it would make a great opening for the "before" part of your story, where you're hooked on sugar, hungry all the time, lacking energy, feeling lethargic and uncommitted, uncomfortable in your clothing...low carbing can change all those things if you let it.

Best wishes whatever you decide,

Sky

I started on the 5th of January thinking that I could do it for a month and then decide whether or not to continue. I lost about 20 pounds on induction the first two weeks and about 2.5 a week since and there hasn't been a thought yet of quitting--Well, there have been moments but not seriously-I love the way I feel and I look better than I have in years and I feel better than I have in years and I have mroe energy and myclothes are fitting differently--I have had to buy new ones becasue the old ones were falling off of me. . .picture bras as suspenders under too big t-shirts. . .and that is what a 4 week trial got me! I am still at it in the middle of my 10th week!

I agree with Sky however, if you are looking at this as a crash diet to try to lose weight just for the wedding it isn't going to work for you. This way of eating (WOE) is a way of life not a diet. I can go on and on, but in a nutshell it has made a huge difference in my life in the last 10 weeks and the people here are a great help.
