Good morning everyone,

The forum looks really nice, and has changed ALOT. I used to be Georgiapeach. It's nice to see some of the same people around. I'm back on the lowcarb band wagon (Atkins), and I've noticed something new. I saw a post about yogurt, and read it entirely. Is yogurt OK for induction?? I did not see anything about that on the thread. I'm thinking that yogurt IS in fact ok, since the thread is in the Induction section of the boards. I ate eggs for so long for breakfast, I'm sick of them! I have a plate of eggs sitting here looking at me right now. Thank you kindly to anyone who responds!

Blessings,
Compassion

I remember you, welcome back and good to see you again.

I would not eat yogurt during induction. Save it for later and add a little back in when you need to up your carbs. Monitor yourself for cravings, some folks are reporting cravings returned when they ate some of the new LC yogurts.

Best wishes!

Thanks for the quick response! I'm not all that concerned about cravings. They really don't bother me as much as other people I think. If I can have heavy cream, it seems as though I can have yogurt. I'm going to have to try. At this point, it's either yogurt...or whole wheat cereal. I just can't do the egg thing much longer. I've made eggs EVERY way you can imagine. Also, my doctor says that I NEED to eat yogurt. Thanks for the warm welcome back too!!

Blessings,
Compassion (Formerly Georgiapeach)

Compassion - there are lots of other breakfast options besides eggs - you can make a mock dabish (see recipe section) or have leftovers, or make smoked salmon rollups.

Good morning Compassion,

I'm only on my 3rd week on this way of eating but I know what you mean about eggs for breakfast. One way I made them much more palatable is I put carb free syrup on them. Then I feel like I've just finished my pancakes and am starting in on my eggs. It seems to do the trick cuz now I don't have to choke 'em down. Good luck!

welcome back compassion. I too know what you mean about the eggs for breakfast. Since I pack my breakfast and lunch for work, I have been doing egg salad, hard boiled eggs, some egg/bacon/cheese tacos with lc tortillas.
got almost sick of the egg salad and had to stop it for awhile.
Yougart, I have been making my own yougart using 1/2 and 1/2, however, I am not sure it that is the reason I stayed the same for the last month, this is the first week I didn't make it and have lost 1 lb.... Of course I have been really watching how much of everything I am putting in my mouth so I am not overdoing it just to eat.
anyway, if you want some clues of making yougart you can private message me if you want and will respond. Also, go for the plain, full fat yougart... no additives, no sugar. Then add fruit (of course this is after induction) or a little splenda and vanilla flavoring and you have some wonderful yougart.
good luck on your return to this WOE.... take care

Hi compassion,

I remember you!

Hay.. have you ever thought about kefir? It is just as good (maybe even better) than yogurt. It has all the health benifits plus more! You can drink kefir the way it is.. or make it into yogurt, cheese, or even sour cream! It is wonderfull stuff. I am totaly addicted! LOL

As for trying yogurt on induction.. personaly I would wait... it is only two weeks! But if you do just be careful because some of the brands of yogurt DO trigger cravings for me. I too can have heavey cream and it not trigger cravings!

Hello again,

Thanks for all the help everyone. Now I remember why I liked this board so much. People are so warm and helpful. Jestey, thanks for the mock danish idea. I've been low carbing for a while now, even though I'm back at it again. I never did like the mock danish. And yep, I know about eating left overs for breakfast. I'm tired of that too. ((SIGH)) I like traditional breakfasts really. Cindy and Carolyn thanks for your ideas also. Heyyyy....I think I'll try adding low carb syrup to my eggs! I have a bottle just sitting in the frige. Wow, that sounds great! Prinzess-fay, thanks for the welcome! So kefir is ok during induction? See, my problem is this...I go for about 10 days, then I want a change. I stop, and then go back and try to do 14 days. I know it's bad. I'm going to get right this time though.

Blessings,
Compassion

Kefir is good, but I'm not sure it's for induction. Have you tried some of the hot cereals for breakfast? You can buy them or make Maggie or Sharon's. I also add ground or chopped nuts and pumpkin seeds to mine.

Someone's also posted a link to a recipe for flaxmeal muffins in the food forum. They are great for breakfast. I hardly ever have eggs anymore.

Thanks for the new idea. I'm fairly familiar with induction. However, I was not aware that we could have flax muffins for breakfast during that time. I will try that!

You know what? I'm not sure if I misspoke about that. Since I didn't know about flax muffins while I was on induction, I didn't think about it.

It's been a few months since I was on induction, so I might not be right about that.

On the other hand, if flax meal is allowed during induction, the muffins don't have any other indgredients that are off limits.

If all that's stopping you is 4 days less induction then move into OWL on day 11. 2 weeks is a normal induction but if 4 days less induction means the difference between sticking with the plan or going off it, well it's a no-brainer. As Carolyn mentioned go for the plain full fat yogurt. Stonyfield cream on the top yogurt is the best one I've found. But I limit myeself to 1/2 a cup.

It always interests me that people seem to think that induction = eggs for breakfast!! You don't HAVE to eat eggs. Eat last night's leftovers. Eat the deep-dish pizza that's in the recipe section. Eat a rollup made with a slice of cream cheese, wrapped with prosciutto, thin-sliced roast beef, smoked salmon - 2 or 3 of those hold me easily til noon!

Make a quiche or sausage bake. There are TONS of recipes on this board for goodies you can eat for breakfast during induction! That mock Danish is a good one, I like that too.

A nice piece of leftover steak and some sauteed spinach with a little hollandaise is REALLY good too!

You have to "think outside the breakfast box" a bit and you'll open up a world of possibilities....

I'm NOT much of an egg eater so I've come up with all kinds of goodies to get me going in the a.m. without those dreaded eggs!! LOL!
