welcome!! glad you have joined us ... and good for you for asking how/where to start. so many people rush into this way of eating w/ out educating themselves first!
i would suggest browsing this site (and others) and try to determine which eating plan would work best for you (atkins, south beach, etc). and then purchase the book and READ it! (or maybe try to find it at the library.)
nothing will help you as much as reading the book.
feel free to post lots of questions here (even before you start) ...
yes, your work environment will be a challege, but once you have a plan in place, it will get easier.
(we even have a member here who works in a bakery!!) so you can do it, too!

Read, Read and then read some more. A good book to read if you haven't selected a plan is Living The Low Carb Life bu Jonny Bowden. In it, he reviews and rates 14 low carb plans. The rating he gives each plan is based on his own nutritional approach. So don't let that sway you from a plan if that plan seems right for you. But It's very important to read the book for whichever plan you decide on.

I agree with Rob. The best thing to do is read up on the differnt plans. I first got one book at the libray before I bought my own.

I have been woking on this way of life for three months now and went back and reread the South Beach book and parts of the Dr. Atkin's book last week. I find it helps me stay on track.

Good luck.

I just wanted to add that you can find a really good summary of different low carb plans here. Choosing your plan is really important. It will give you a 'map' of how to loose weight, and do it in a healthy way.

REad the book, read all the books, read the articles available online, in magazines etc. The more you know, the better informed you are and the better choices you can make. Atkins was the one I chose and so far I have lost 35lbs and 4 clothing sizes.

There's quite a bit of information about starting right here on this site. There's an article here that is very helpful, and this article is chock full of information.

I second what Rob said. Read, read, and then read more and more about low carb. You can never research enough about how to fine tune a low carb way of eating to suit your lifestyle, and tailoring it to suit your needs will never end.

That's what makes it a way of life, and it's a womderful, empowering feeling to have total control over your body and what goes into it and what it will become.

I will defiantely agree with everyone here! READ READ READ. I've been into this for about 4 months and I'm actually re-reading the DANDR right now, just for a bit or reminder to get me back on track and to stay there. It's always important to educate yourself on something before you partake in it. Think about it.... you wouldn't go to a skydiving company to jump without researching their record and their certifications.
