| Hey. If you read my post from earlier, you saw that I mentioned that my blood sugar drops when I don't eat for a certain period of time. I have not seen a dr. about this. Here's how it started. I was pregnant this time last year. I had a baby girl in August (my 2nd child). Anyways, during my pregnancy, when I was around 5-6 months along, I started noticing that when I was late taking my lunch break or if I didn't eat a snack between bkfst and lunch, I would get real shaky. This happened 2-3 times before I began to wonder more about it. My FIL is diabetic, so one day I happened to be at their house when I got the "shakes" and he took my BS before I ate. My BS had dropped down to 60 and it was at lunchtime. (I had eaten a high-sugared bkfst) My SIL who is a nurse was there and she said that was too low for the middle of the day. That would be a normal BS level in the early am, but not mid-day. So, I just decided that it was because of being pregnant and I made sure to eat when I was supposed to for the rest of my pregnancy. Well, a couple of months ago, I noticed the same thing happening again. Some famiy members have just told me to eat when I was supposed to and I should be okay. I have never discussed this with a dr. Am I hypoglycemic? Well, I know none of you can "diagnos" me, but should I see a dr.? Or is this something that happens to everyone when they don't eat every few hours? I'm only asking ya'll, because I noticed more than one of you are hypoglycemic. Sorry this was so long, just wanted to make sure you had all the details. Any advice or opinion would be appreciated.

| There is really nothing a doctor can do about hypoglycemia. It does happen to many people around here. The best way to treat it is to make sure to have some type of protein meal or snack at least every four hours. During induction, this can be Turkey and cheese roll Hard boiled egg pepperoni slices (make sure they are sugar/carb free) Some type of meat Any other good low carb snack that you can think of

| Mlmama, When I replied to your other post, I mentioned that seeing your doctor was a good idea. It really is, you know. Have him/her check your blood sugar so you know for sure if you are hypoglycemic, and how serious it is. Also, tell the doctor about your eating plan, so he will have all the information needed. It's true, you really can't "cure" hypoglycemia, but having your doctor aware of it and following his advice is really the best way to go. Good luck...

| Add me to the people who think it would be wise to check with your doctor about your symptoms. Your own experience seems to be telling you that you need to eat regularly, so listen to your body. If you do indeed have unstable blood sugars, the Atkins plan - PROPERLY FOLLOWED - is one of the best things you can do to fix it. Best wishes, Sky Atkins since 8/02 196/144/under 150 |

| I just want to clarify here, I re-read my previous post, and I do agree that you need to talk to your Dr. to at least make sure that he/she is following the situation. As for practical advice for handeling it, see above

| HI I to am hypoglycemica. Actually the best thing you can do is follow the 5-6 small meal a day rule. I don't follow regliously for the fact of my blood sugar problems. I found that if your sugar is real low dizzy, sweats, fainting, gluclose is the safest way to go. I know it totally blows the daily carbs but, its one of those things, I carry a 4 oz bottle of baby white grape juice, it only takes a couple swallows (half a bottle) and about 6 min for me to feel better but, then again since I have been doing Atkins and having 6 small meals a day mine is way under control. I agree with all that have posted if your not seeing a DR you should. Besides he honestly might tell you that this type of high protien diet isn't good for you~ good luck Juliew |

I would warn against taking in anything high carb to counteract low blood sugar. It will raise it for a while, but then your blood sugar will crash within a few hours, requiring another sugar meal/snack. This is why a hypoglycemic must have a protein snack every few hours.

| I sometimes am shakey in the morning before I eat breakfast--I know it is becasue of what I ate the night before--and a high protein breakfast \"cures" it. I have always had to eat a breakfast right after I get up--doctors cant find anything wrong iwth me but I get dizzy if I don't eat right away in the morning and my hands shake and all. Doctor just told me to eat--I always have somethign with protein and have added extra protein intomy diet to make sure it doesn't happen but if by some chance I don't eat muchb efore bed I know it in the morning. Just me I guess, I often have some cottage cheese or a meat something like chicken salad or hard boiled eggs and do fine after for the rest of the day!

| Lantus is a long acting form of insulin that is helpful for certain diabetics under certain circumstances. It certainly is not the answer for a non-diabetic with some apparently hypoglycemic symptoms.
