Default My Curves 6-week weight challenge

Most of you know I have been Atkins since 1/2/04. and have been healthier than I could remember. but also a slow loser, which isn't a real problem - but if we don't experiment, we don't find what works best for us. Last night I started a 6-week Curves Weight loss challenge - posting in my journal - but figure I'll also start a thread to take me through the 6 weeks and let you know how it goes. If anyone else is doing the Challenge at their Curves - feel free to post to this thread.
INFORMATION IS POWER - and LOWCARB INFO is a lifesaver.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
First challenge meeting was last night. It is a different concept. But I am starting on the 2-week Phase 1. There are about 25 women in this group. We are ALL OVER THE PLACE!! But it should be a lot of fun. and only about 3 of the women come up as calorie sensitive, the rest of us are carb-sensitive.

Very much like induction - unlimited protein, limit 20 grams of carbs (and this is full carbs, none of that net carb stuff you have to think about). But most of the salad food and a protein shake per day are considered 'free' foods - so you don't count them at all.
It does have you stick with the lower-fat protein foods - which is fine with me. Love my turkey and shrimp anyhow. but I need to get some low fat cottage cheese and fruits. I just have a tendency to overdo the fruits...

I have to go out today and get me a food scale. Never had one and my portions have always been 'super-sized' - and although the proteins are unlimited - I really need to get a true portion concept going.

I did take my Maggies Cereal morning portion down to the 1/3 cup instead of 1/2 cup I have been having, and the numbers fit perfectly into the plan. Yes - its more like 12 full carbs - but morning is the time for the carbs to get me through the day. The rest of the day is proteins and 'free' foods.

This looks totally doable. I do need to up my exercise. 3x at Curves is great - but I need to break out the walking tape and start doing crunches. my little 'pooch' is just hanging in. I've lost inches everywhere but the abs. I did order an ab-roller, but hasn't come yet. So I need to commit to exercise - EVERY DAY!

so, I begin a new journey. I will post my food journal nightly, and my numbers weekly. I have been struggling with the Adkins lately. I am a slow loser - and it has been quite discouraging lately. Not that I will ever start back up on the sugar/breads - they just create havoc with my body - not in the weight alone, but in the health.
Curves does work you towards eating *normally* again when you reach your goal - but I think my normal will never include those HC foods again.

i have an ab roller that i ordered from TV and it's great! you kneel on the floor, hold the handles on the side of the roller and roll out as far as you can go w/ out arching your back. you can also take it to the sides.
mine is really sturdy and comes apart easily (for storage, i mean).
is this is the same kind you ordered, mary kay?
when i do use it, i feel it the next day - even though i work my abs a lot ... this gives me good variety. and also helps strengthen back muscles.

as a matter of fact, I already have that one. the one I ordered is kinda like a bent rectangle with a neck rest. so you push the part over your tummy, and it helps support your neck/head. I always get neck pains from doing crunches - had a couple ruptured discs in my neck many years ago and they had to replace the bone and fuse it. so, thought I would try this.
The rolling thing I have, like yours - has been on a shelf for several years - forgot about it. I just don't have strength yet on that. but I may try it again.
dog keeps wanting to help me with floor exercises - and he's not much help.

I got my new ab-roller thingy. It is pretty cool. Just $29, so nothing real fancy. It is like a curved rectangle with a head rest to support the neck when doing crunches. and - Carrie - thanks for reminding me about that one I already had - the one you do from a kneeling position that rolls on the floor. I tried that one for a little bit yesterday, and could feel it.
But the time I got the new one assembled, I was already tired. I just have to keep it from going to my 'exercise graveyard' like the rest of my stuff.

Mary Kay - I have to shut the dog up in the kitchen otherwise she'll lick my face on every crunch. lol. But the ab-roller is very easy on the neck.

Mary Kay, quick question, you said 3 out of 25 women were calorie sensitive while the rest were carb sensitive, how did they figure that out? I wonder since I'm SO SLOW if I should eat lower cals

Thanks

There is a quiz/test thing in the book - and based on your responses it gives you some idea. Don't think I can post the tests, as it in a book and copyrighted. But kinda of along the lines of -
calorie sensitive people have had normal body weights in the past, normal appetite, few if any food cravings, normal eating pattern.
carb sensitive - always had problems dealing with weight, moodiness, drowsiness after eating, emotional, cravings, fatigue, etc.
It seems calorie sensitive people may just be overeating (portion control) and need to cut back.
The carb sensitive people actually seem to have more of a psychological sensitivity / physical addiction to what they eat.

Does that make sense? Thats just sort of a nutshell, but also what Atkins, SBD and the rest seem to point to. Calorie control (portion control) does work for a lot of people - but the carb problem is something that needs special attention.

Hmmm.... well that's interesting.... it's actually weird because once you said that about the calorie/carb sensitive people, I began wondering myself how much of my prob. is carbs and not portion control... I never had a weight problem until I became sendentary at like age 24 then I began to go from 120 up to 160-165 stayed there until the baby! THat put me at 200 and then after she was born I quickly got to 155 but back to 175 in a relatively short period... I've remained primarily at 170-175 over the past 3 years until the end of last year when I finally gained up to 185... That's when I said that's it! I started this WOE and now I've hit 161, getting back down to the "comfortable" weight that my body likes (NOT ME). SO, I know I've always had a sweet tooth and loved pasta, but mostly I just ate too much... Now that I'm on this woe, I've got much less cravings for sweets and tend to eat less? But still around 1500 calories, I have heavier friends who are always looking for ways to cut carbs all day to be able to eat a big piece of cheese bread! NOT ME, I don't have that feeling, infact I've always had friends who eat a lot and I just never ate like that, my problem was sweets and being sedentary? Which do you think I am carb sens or cal sens? BOTH? I don't know but I've lost about 24 lbs since January so I guess it's ok like this, but I wonder if I cut more calories would I do better? I know 30 lbs is a lot to some and a little for others, it's not too much I don't think when I have a life time to keep it off if I can get it off I just sometimes question if this woe is for me, if I was doing ww or lf would I have lost it all by now? ya know? Don't get me wrong though, I LOVE THIS WOE, and if it works for me in the long run, I'd like to keep doing it... Now, did "I" Make any sense??? AHAHAHAHAHA

I can't make that call - I'm not equipped to. Heck, I'm still in infantile stage in this journey.
Wish I could help, but I don't know. The Curves book goes into it in more detail, but even they said it isn't always black and white.
