    Wink Fat Fast

Since this round of Atkins is going so slowly, I was thinking about the Fat Fast for 4 -5 days as recommended by the Atkins website. Have any of you tried it? How did it go? Did you go back on Induction following the Fat Fast? Thanks for your input. I really appreciate it.

Personally, I wouldn't do it. It's difficult and can be dangerous. Atkins even said that.

How slowly is it going? How much have you lost/how much do you have to lose?

It's going really slowly. I've lost 3 lbs in four weeks and don't feel any difference in my clothing. I have about 40 lbs to lose. I'm worried that my 4-month stray from Atkins (and total carb extravaganza!) has killed my metabolism. Before I try the Fat Fast I'm going to try 30 minutes a day on the tread mill. Maybe that will kick me into gear. I'm really getting discouraged!

The fat fast is intended for people who can't get into ketosis. If you are looking for ways to accelerate your loss, excercise -aerobics and weight training, and drinking half your body weight in ounces of water, are the best strategies.

Additionally, since you have been on the plan for 4 weeks, I really hope that you have moved on to OWL (i.e. adding 5 grams of good carbs every week (or every other week, if you want to go extra slow)). Some people actually need these to break their stalls.

Bopalina, I think you'll find that kicking yourself into exercise mode will really help. It has helped me when I 've stalled or slowed, and I keep trying to remember that Doc Atkins said excercise is NOT OPTIONAL on this WOE. The water thing has really helped me too. THe scale tells me when I have not been drinking enough!

Hang in there! Of course, everyone is different, but I had a similar problem during the month of March where I only lost about 3 - 4 lbs. I am not sure why, but I did start exercizing three times per week at Curves and may have been building muscle/ I was getting a bit frustrated to say the least.

I have a suggestion that seems to have worked for me unless it was a coincidence...I am eating three solid low carb meals a day. I don't gorge myself, but I do eat plenty. Also, I make sure that I eat within one hour -- no more! I am careful about eating too many processed foods for snacks. They seem to slow me down. If I want a low carb chocolate treat, I eat it within the same hour as my meal.

When I made these changes, the weight seemed to drop off very quickly and still does. I have only lost 11 lbs since then, but I was also away on vacation and busy with some other commitments.

    Hope these suggestions are helpful.

I'm not sure if I can be much help, because I've never lost more than 3 or 4 pounds in a month. Some of us just don't, I guess.

The Fat Fast pops up here occasionally, and we always give the same advice: it is only for people who are seriously metabolically resistant, and then only for a limited period of time. I would try EVERYTHING else first, IMHO. Stalls do happen (read Lawbooks' excellent article on them!) and are even necessary.
Don't get discouraged. Add exercise for a bit and see; you are sure to bump up your metabolism and build some muscle. Just take your measurements first and go by them, rather than weight, to gauge your progress.
    Good luck!!

Exercise is definately the first thing you should be considering. I have trouble keeping up my walking too but I know that when I get into a solid routine, the weight comes off so much quicker and easier.

That said, there is nothing wrong with trying the fat fast HOWEVER, I would NOT do it for 5 days. It's simply too hard and you will be miserable. 2-3 days at the most. Another way many of us do it is eat fat fast style for most of the day and then have a small, normal dinner including a serving of veggies.

    Good luck
