Question Celebrity LCers?

Hey there,

I was skimming a mag this morning and was wondering something. I wonder which Hollywood celebs are following the Controlled Carb Lifestyle and what diets are they following? Just a weird thought. I figured I'd come here to the board to ask you all this question. What have you read or see on TV? Who is doing what out there? Let's hear what you've all heard.

Regards,
Krystyne

Bill and Hillary are on South beach together. I heard that they both lost over 20 lbs. I have no idea about the current White House residents though.

It's Damon

I heard that Aniston was the first Hollywood star to try low carb, and managed to get many others on it. Makes you wonder if she got Brad on it.

I am amazed at how many other celebs are following our woe.

Well, there's Susanne Sommers - she actually has her own LC-diet style book (called, "Sommersize"?). Her spinach "bread" recipe used to be a favorite of mine. Hmmm... I should start making that again - it was so useful and tasty!

LowCarb Energy magazine has a Hollywood Carb Watch page that says Sofia Milos (CSI:Miami), Jennifer Love Hewitt, and Charlize Theron are all low-carbing to some degree, although there is no mention of SouthBeach or Atkins until you get to the "Flipside" part about Catherine Zeta Jones objecting (in court) to claims (by some newspapers) that she was/is on Atkins. Oprah had a guest on that lost like 300 pounds by "cutting out the white stuff and sugar altogether". She looked sooo good!!! I just checked it out and her name is Samantha Ivy. She is the daughter of jazz singer Nancy Wilson. If you go to Oprah's site and search Samantha Ivy, her story and plan are there. Kinda a mix of lowcarb and Dr.Phil's Key's....

Oh yeah, and Dr. Phil's wife does NO sugar whatsoever!!!!!! I consider that some form of LCing!!!! I don't think they LC per say, but the lack of sugar definitely qualifies in MY book.

I know! I doubt the world will ever hear the Good Doctor promoting "lowcarb" per se, but in the nutrition chapter, (in his book) he discusses the evils of sugar and processed foods. He also discusses insulin resistance and other aspects of low carb eating, although the phrase "low carb" is not used. I guess he doesn't want to be linked to any one (man, I hate to use the term....) "DIET". I love Dr.Phil, but we have some varying opinions on some things. I'm glad he "does not expect anyone to substitute his judgment for theirs".

Robin McGraw also uses a "compounding pharmacist" that mixes some supplement type things for her. I've heard her say she avoids wheat gluten and yeast, too, I think. Anyway, this woman has done her homework and has helped herself through some bad menopausal symptoms by finding out what herbs/minerals/vitamins/etc. can help with them. I gotta admit, she looks fabulous.

So basically what I am getting from all of this is that Dr. Phil is a supporter or "controlled carb diets" rather than "low carb diets". Basically the Atkins diet in my opinion is "controlled carb" or I wouldn't be doing it because I feel that we all need some carbohydrates in our diet, be it the "good" or "low glycemic index" foods. Needless to say, when we all are watching which and how many carbs go in our mouths daily it is CONTROLLING the carbs not eating low carb. I know from reading some of the posts and from doing some research, eating "low carb" for a long time can potentially stall weight loss and be detrimental to energy levels. So "controlled carb" eating is where it's at. Yay!!

I think I actually like the term "controlled carb" better than "low carb" but now LC is stuck in my head.............oh well. "Controlled carb" might not get as much negative press or reaction, ya know? I know the good Doc P. has a 2 week kick start part to his 7 keys program, which I've never really checked out, but I'll betcha it's similar to induction. Am I correct on this, Maxibee? And I think Doc P's 7 keys are probably VERY effective for people with food issues that relate to psych issues, where they use food to substitute it for love and comfort. It was cool to watch the 13 people on his show transform themselves.
