Default Hello from a newbie

Hi everyone,
My name is Allison, I am 22 yrs old. I live in Mississippi. I stumbled upon this site a few days ago when i did a search for LC recipes I have been cruising this site since then. i think it is a great resouce, no one around me is doing this type of diet, and in fact my dad even things that it is too drastic, so I am so excited to have some people to share things with and have answers to my questions. I did the plan years ago when I was a freshman in high school, and it definetly worked. After a few years though the weight slowly came back on. When my mother died three years ago everything fell apart to me and of course even more weight came on. I did not realize how bad it had gotten until i saw pictures of myself from my sisters graduation. Thats when I decided something had to cahnge. I started induction two weeks ago (at just under 300 lbs) and am already down 16 lbs. I don't have a set goal weight that I am working towards, I am going back to school in August '05 to major in nursing. My only goal is that by then I want to look and feel better about myself. I want this time in my life to be like starting over for the rest of my life. And I want to be healthy and happy enough to enjoy it. I am really looking forward to getting to know everyone here and enjoing shared success.

Hi,

I am also a newbie here. I started the atkins induction this morning. I finished the new revolution last nite and took some pictures of myself this morning.
After starring at them and crying my eyes out for an hour I am commited to doing this.
I am a retired hairdresser 45 years old and have been gaing weight steadily for 2 years. I am also taking Paxil for anxiety and have heard it will make you gain weight. Maybe that's true but my problem is I am a carb addict. I eat way way tooo many carbs.
I did a search and found this site and it is great. The support here seems to be wonderful and I hope it helps me when I stumble. I know looking at the pics from this morning will make me run away from the carbs that made me this big.
I am 5'10 and have always been heavy. But the scale this morning said 247 and my heart just broke. I am just now realizing how big I am. I don't even know what my ideal weight would be.
Anyway I am so glad I found this site and hope to get to know you all and be another succsess story!!!

This board is a great resource and I've learned a ton in the past couple of weeks.

Hello, and welcome! I have found this site to be helpful and very informative when I have had questions...I also have ben able tolist my menu here, and people have looked it over and have suggested what I should add to what I was eating or what I should take away. It's really great to have this kind of support, and I wish both of you the best of luck as you venture into this new way of eating and this new way of life!

Also, at 5'10, one of the weight charts has this range for you:5'10" 132-174 (if you're 34 and under) 146-188 (if you're 35 and older) but I personally also think it depends on your frame and how you feel and look at a certain weight. It also says this: There are two ways to think about weight: One is how it influences your looks. Another is how it
influences your health. A healthy weight meets three conditions:

1. Your weight falls within the range on the table below:

Height
Weight without clothes:

19-34 years
35 years and over

5'0"
97-128 108-138
5'2" 104-137 115-148
5'4" 111-146 122-157
5'6" 118-155 130-167
5'8" 125-164 138-178
5'10" 132-174 146-188
6'0" 140-184 155-199
6'2" 148-195 164-210
6'4" 156-205 173-222

2. Your waist measure is smaller than your hip measure. Too much fat around the waist is believed to be a greater health risk than excess fat in the hips and thighs.

3. Your doctor has advised you not to gain or lose weight because of medical problem.

If your weight is not ?healthy?, set reasonable weight goals and try for long-term success through better eating habits and more exercise.

I, of course, could weigh as little as 97 lbs and have a BMI of 19 which means optimum health...but to me, that is just too little...I'm in a healthy range currently for my height - but at the high end of the scale - and with my small frame, I feel I need to weigh less...

Anyway, good luck! I wish you lots of success!

Sheyla

hiya!
YAY! @ allycat for ur first 16 pounds!!! doesnt it feel GREAT??!!!? heres to 16 more!!! *toasts can of diet rite

pattijc: i know the feeling of anxiety as i also take meds for it and depression. however, since ive lost some weight...even tho i still have a long way to go.....my doc and i have decided i can begin to lower my dosage and eventually ween myself off altogether!! self confidence and self esteem r wunderful things and u gain them when u realize ur a strong person and can do low carb cuz ur so worth it. i now laugh anxiety in the face! panic attacks??? none n e more! ive been on meds for 10 years and to finally be off them will be a small miracle for me. a smaller waist and a healthy body and no meds. were in this together. u can do it too!!!!

welcome alleycat and patti!

alleycat, i envy you starting out at 22! it's way easier at 22 than it is at my age! use that advantage! you're off to a roaring start and i'm looking forward to hearing about your progress!

patti, hang in there and don't let yourself feel too down. that is a much bigger problem than just starting from where you are, because the depression makes it that much harder to make solid choices. you are basically giving yourself a great gift, and you have to care for yourself to feel like you deserve it, y'kno what i mean?

and i don't know if it helps to know, but i started out at 250---so even a few pounds over what you are now! that was november. so far, i've lost over 75 pounds NOT by any special, miracle efforts, but steady and strong, following the lc way, y'kno? yes, i've eating offplan occassionally, but it's the choices you make day in and day out that will come home to roost.

i've been significantly overweight all my life and so if i can do this, i have no doubt you can too!

also depending on how the paxil is working for you, you may want to consider checking with your doctor about wellbutrin instead? i take wellbutrin and in addition to HELPING with weight loss (and smoking if you're tyring to quit), it also up's one's libido, the oppositie of what most antidepressants do. of course, weight loss does that too! (*sncicker*)

keep your head in a positive place, folks, and it will pay off in spades!

Hello and a big welcome to both of you! This place is incredible for support and advice. I also take Paxil, but I don't know if it contributed to my weight, because I've always had a problem. I take 20mg a day.

I'd like to reiterate what everyone else has been saying, because it is true!
1. Drink your water
2. Exercise (when and if you are able)
3. Get support (HERE!)
4. Get informed (The research is mounting on the benefits of a lc lifestyle)

It gets me through the day when I can come here and be inspired by these wonderful people.

The beginning is rough, but it will get better.

Best of luck, and HUGS!

WOW!!!

Thank You all for the welcome and encouragement!!!
It really has been a good day! No hunger just a headache and some sluggishness but I know those will both go away in a few days.
I did Atkins a few years ago and lost 17 pounds during the first 2 weeks but to tell ya the truth I had kids at home and it was too hard to cook different for everyone. Plus I don't think I was ready to commit then.
Kids are all on their own now and I am ready to go!
Plus if I even think about cheating myself all I have to do is look at the pictures I took this morning and thats enough to stop me in my tracks!! LOL
Thanks again and I will be checking in regularly.

Thank you so much to everyone. I feel so welcome here. I spent the whole day at work reading some past post and checking out all the different forums that are available at this site. I have reviewed some things and learned some stuff I didn't know. Didn't get much done at work though, but anyway. i had a great day and hope they just keep getting easier.
