Default Keto stix yes or keto stix no?

Has anyone used keto stix to determine if they are in ketosis? Do you find them helpful? I live in a very humid climate (at least in the summer, ugh!) and I heard they don't work well in a humid climate. However, I would think if they did work they would be a great way to measure whether or not you are in ketosis and thus on the right track, especially when you're first beginning.

I would go buy some if they are useful, but I don't want to waste my money on them if they don't work.

Thumbs up Re: Keto stix yes or keto stix no?

    Hey there,
I have some Ketostix which I purchased from Walgreens. They should have them in your local pharmecies. If they don't, they can order them for you. I have also seen them at Target and Walmart. They are pretty inexpensive too.

I have used them for awhile now, and I love the extra "proof" I get when I see the ketostix change color. Something I recently learned was, that if you drink alot of water, the color of your stick will not show a dark purple, due to it being so deluted w/ water. I was told it is like being pregnant. Either you ARE, or you are NOT. So I would advise yes! LIke I said, even when the scale is not budging, my inches are remaining...I can tinkle on a stick and presto!!! I know I am doing this WOE right! It is a great feeling!

    Take care!

    Keto-stix.....YES
I used these on a daily basis when I first started. It IS a great way to determine whether or not you are in ketosis. I found them very encouraging.
Something to keep in mind... any color chage is good, don't worry if your stix don't get to the dark purple, as long as they register at all, you are in ketosis. It has been compared on this site to being pregnant - either you are, or you are not!

Yeah, they're useful, but you've got to remember not to take one reading too seriously because the color can be pale for reasons unrelated to your carb intake.

Experiment to find the best time of day to get the most consistent test results. I test myself every night before bed. I tend to get a darker color just before bed than I do right after waking up. Beats me, but that's the way it is.

I pay about $8 something for a bottle of 50 at Costco. If you're paying a lot more, shop around. I only use Bayer brand Ketostix.

I don't use them because well, er I'm cheap. And they almost never registered aboce the slightest trace even when I was on induction and right after when a 3 pound a week weight loss was standard. I can tell when I'm in ketosis by my breath and by the way I feel like I'm burning fat. But it's something that's individual and it might eb the right thing for you. experiment! They should carry them at Walmart. A few years ago i went to walmart and asked if tehy carried them. The guy eyed me suspiciously and said no. Then I said they were for my diabetic sister and suddenly they had them.

it's more a thing of whether or not you like using them. when i first started, i got a bottle (and still have some left, actually). i got them from ebay because they were pricey in drugstores. i also cut the sticks in half longways so i could use each stick for two uses, to get my money's worth. (i'm with rob--i'm cheap!)

mostly, i found that when i needed some extra encouragement, i could use the sticks as one of my "reinforcers." you know. well, if the scale isn't moving, let's check the sticks. or my measurements. or try on some smaller clothes. i don't really use them much at all any more because i am comfortable enough with this lifestlye to have a pretty good handle on how i'm doing. but it was nice to have the extra reinforcement, especially at first.

Like Rob, I don't use these anymore either. I don't believe they are very accurate. Your sticks can also show very dark if you are overeating on protein.

i bought like a 24 pack back in january and still have some left. it only cost me $12 and i like using them about twice a month juss to git that extra *ur doing good* feel. when i keep right on low carbs, it registers very dark. when i slack and eat higher carbs, its a lighter color. i think theyre fun if ur willing to spend the $ for a little reassurance.

I've never used them, and I don't really feel the need. Just my 2 cents!
