| i imagine they are deducting the sugar alcohols from the carb count as well. there is quite a bit of debate about that topic, especially since sugar alcohols effect many just like sugar does or close. i would suggest anyway that as you try to get back on track, you be very careful about eating any of these bars anyway. even though they are from "atkins" company, they are very famous for stalling people out. some can eat them, yes, but if you find you're not losin, that would be the first place i would look!

| I am very, very, very careful when it comes to any type of lc bar. Someone gave me a load of lc bars when they decided not to do lc anymore about 4 months ago, and I decided to try the coconut almond one. It tasted just like an Almond Joy, and I ate all 3 of them in less than 15 minutes...I react to them the same way I react to anything that contains sugar. Once I start, it's hard to stop...plus my body is not very malitol friendly...(I gave the rest of them to dh)... I think it talks about sugar alcohol somewhere on this forum...and if you are going to eat a lc bar that has sugar alcohol, count the sugar alcohol as carbs. Don't even subtract it. Some people just count half of the sugar alcohol as carbs. For me, to be on the safe side, I jsut count all of it as carbs. If you think you're stalling, ditch the bars for about two weeks to see if maybe that's the only cause for your stall. My suggestion anyway. Sheyla |

| I have to be very very careful about sugar alcohols! They have a very unpleasand side effect--gastrointestinal! they well may be the cause of your stall!

| I like those too, especially the peanut butter chocolate ones. They stall me if I have them too often. Many people say they can eat them without stalling if they use them as a meal replacement but I need a meal lol. Sugar alcohols are killer stallers so just use caution, I got addicted to them for a while and had to give them up!

| There are some sugar alcohols in the Advantage bars, but they often have glycerine as well. Not sure how that plays with some people.

| I DO like the choc-peanut butter Atkins bars. But they make me ILL! I was eating about 1 per day and got tremendous headaches. Took the advice found here about "bars" and stopped them. Headaches were GONE. Then I "experimented" with LC ice cream. The Atkins is FINE for ME - does not stall me nor give me headaches or GI problems. The KETO ice cream give me MAJOR GI/stomache problems. I guess if you want to "experiment" with YOUR body, you can. But from my personal experience and from the advice I've read on this site, I am staying away from MOST "LC" packaged products.

| I found a "candy" type bar, not a meal replacement bar, at Walmart that does not contain sugar alcohols. It is called "Z-Carb". I did not experience any of the , umm, gastric distress that I get when i consume sugar alcohols. hth *(there is more info on these in the lc cooking thread, probably about 2 weeks ago) |

| Actually the Z-carb bar does have a sugar alcohol in it called erythritol. It, however is one of the better sa's if you are going to consume them, IMO. It supposedly does not spike the blood sugar like the others, and most folks don't report to many GI complaints with the erythritol. There are some more *candy* type chocolate bars that use erythritol; perfection bar, the hershey 1-carb bar, and another couple I can't recall at the moment, and of course, the Z-carb. When I use any of these products, I do count at least half of the sa, just to be on the safe side, like: total carbs minus fiber minus half of sa carbs equal what I count. As always, to each his own and YMMV Shelley

| Um, I STILL get SOME intestinal reaction from the Z-carb bars, but not nearly like the ones with maltitol or lactitol in them. I will choose those over the maltitol or lactitol ones now. I only do a couple of them per month, when I'm REALLY jonesing for chocolate. There might be a recipe in the data base for "granola" . It's REALLY good!!! Also, I think Sharron Long has a recipe for flavored nuts in her cook books. I'll have to look them up and see which one. Those would be very portable in the car.

| Don't believe anything the Atkins Corp. says about sugar alcohols not counting. Dr. Atkins is dead. The money-men are running the corp. now, and they apparently have appalling business ethics. The only two erythritol bars I know of are Z-carb and Carborite's At Last bars. The Hershey ones contain some erythritol but are really made with a maltitol syrup (polyglycitol syrup). I tried the At Last bar a couple of weeks ago. One one-ounce (mint chocolate) bar and two hours later I was in the bathroom with explosive diarrhea. However, I was still in dark purple ketosis later that evening. My own personal jury is still out on what to think about that.

| I found a bar called Perfection that is made with erythritol too. It is just like the other two. (pretty tasty and DANGEROUS to have around.)
