I make my own yogurt sometimes. It's really easy, and I don't have a yogurt maker. Here are the instructions I use.

I incubate it on the top of my stove with the oven on "warm", and I use plain Stonyfield Farm yogurt for the starter. It has no additives, and lots of active cultures. The only other equipment you need is a candy thermometer, a 9X13 cake pan, and some small glass containers with tight-fitting lids (I use small canning jars). I sterilize the jars first.
Give it a try before you buy a maker.

I have 2 yogurt makers. One was my mothers and the otheri got at a yard sale for $5.00. I've had these for about 5 years and have not gotten around to making it yet.

Ah... well, I'm with Gilley79 - I just didn't lose weight when I was eating yogurt (whole milk, non-sweetened).

I guess it depends on how your personal enzymes handle it.

I used to make yogurt years ago with my mothers yogurt maker that I would borrow from her. I forgot about that.

I just bought a Salton yogurt maker on Amazon.com for $12 and change. Got it Friday and haven't had a chance to "play" with it yet!!

Alton Brown's Good Eats has a recipe for homemade yogurt too, http://www.foodnetwork.com/food/reci..._19495,00.html - along with a recipe for frozen lemon ginger yogurt which if tweaked to low carb - looks GOOD!

I've gotta get some milk and try my new toy....

Been making my own yogurt for months now, I use 1/2 and 1/2 and milk, for a creamier yogurt.... make sure if you use yogurt from the store as your started that it has not additives, one I got had pectin added to it (I think it was brown cow) also make sure it is plain, ....
I am out and have been out of town for the weekend and need to get some made tonite.
