Default Have been stalled

Since the end of June I have only lost about 4lbs. I have stalled before but not quite this long. I am getting very frustrated. I am in my 9th month now on this woe and have been happy so far, but this is hard. I am eating between 45 to 55 carbs per day. Not sure if I am getting too many or not enough. The strange thing is, is that everyone thinks I have been losing more weight, but the scale hasn't budged. Perhaps I am toning up. I am still exercising and drinking my water. I am a very patient person and will not give up, but I soon need a little woosh on the scale.

Nancy, it does sound like you may be losing inches even if the scale isn't moving much. Muscle is heavier that fat, so if you are displacing fat with new muscle - all to the good, but you would not be able to see that from weighing yourself. If you haven't been using the tape measure up to now, it might be interesting to start recording your measurements weekly.

As I've said to my friends,

"I don't want to lose weight....
.
.
.
.

I want to lose VOLUME!!!"

But, how about posting a couple of days worth of menus? It could be possible there are some hidden carbs, which could be slowing your weight loss.

Hi Teelbee and thanks for the reply, : here is a typical days menu

Breakfast: almost oatmeal with heavy cream and cinamon (14), or 3 scrambled eggs with creamcheese (6) and 1 cup coffee with spenda and cream (3-4)

Lunch

salad with lettuce, tomato, some red onion, and cucumber with 2 tblsp ranch dressing (14) or some sort of vege amounting to about 10 carbs. 1 cup coffee with spenda and cream (3-4)

snack--piece of cheese

dinner--some sort of meat and veges (aprox 6-10)

snack--coffee with spenda and cream(3-4) and either 1/2 cup jello with whip cream (4), or 1/2 cup low carb icecream(11) or plum(8), or 1/2 cup strawberries with cream. (8)

lots of water

lately I have been slacking off on veges a bit and need to get back on track. I aslo wonder if I should cut back on the coffee, as it takes about 10 of my allowed carbs per day.

OK, here comes my MANTRA. Are you perhaps eating too many/too few calories for your new weight? Go to: http://www.weightlossforgood.co.uk/bmr_calculator.htm and see what your calorie count should be just to EXIST. Then add about 100 to 200 to that count.

Before your stall, were you still losing with that number of carbs? Sounds like a lot of cream. Don't get me wrong, I consider cream a major food group, but my body just won't tolerate too much of it, even within my allowed carb counts!

And speaking of coffee . . . I normally have 24 to 36 oz's in the AM and that's it. But last night my husband and I went to the casino and I had coffee with my meal and took a large "to go" cup back to the casino with me. Upshot? Up a pound this AM. Was it the coffee? Hidden carbs in the chicken? (!) or water weight from the DRY air in the casino? Duh. Who knows.

Be patient, I stalled for 10 weeks this summer--converted fat to muscle--well, lost fat gained muscle--toned a LOT and didn't lose a single pound. INt he last 3 weeks I have lost about 8 lbs and another pants size. Just keep doing what you are doing and give your body time to catch up to itself!

You know, if you think you are not losing inches/weight fast enough, it could be that you are consuming to many carbs/calories for your current size. As I got smaller, I found what Alida says certainly applied to me - I had to reduce my food intake to continue to lose.

What had worked for me in the beginning was not as appropriate after I'd lost a goodly percentage of my excess body weight. As I got closer to goal, I found I had to cut some calories from fat to keep losing. I switched to using lesser amounts of half-and-half instead of so much cream (per TBS -18 calories vs. 102 cal/.4 g carb vs .6 g carb), counted the nuts, weighed the cheese, ate less bacon or sausage, cut out pork rinds, etc.

 To this day, I find LC ice cream, even in very moderate amounts, totally stalls my weight loss (DANG!).

I have stalled for as much as three or four months at a time. It's frustrating, but there is nothing like the "Whoosh" that comes from perservering. I, too, cut back from cream to half and half. You might try tracking your food with www.fitday.com. I did and was surprised to see how many carbs and cals I was eating without knowing it.

I'm here to tell you I have been in a stall too long to remember how long. I KNOW I have to cut down on my fat intake, pure and simple, but I'm just not willing for now, so I will put up with the stall. I still seem to be losing (the minutest of) inches tho, my clothes continue to get loser on me. So I'm not all that concerned with the scale. Keep on keepin on, tweak here and there and maybe you'll jog something lose. I think what's been said above maybe has some merit. It could be your fat intake, it could be the coffee. Who knows? Try a few days without the coffee and see what happens.

Thanks for all your speedy replys

I re-read some parts of the atkins essentials book and found some things I many be doing wrong. It says to exercise 1 hour a day. I have only been exercising for 40 minutes 4 times a week, but the exercise routine I am doing is very high impact areobics and quite athletic, and I must say I am soaking wet by the end of the workout.

I think I should eat more veges and less cheese. I couldn't find it in the book but I guess we are supposed to eat a good percentage of our carbs in veges.

I have also quit eating low carb bars a couple of weeks ago. I was getting terribly fooled by the hidden carbs.

And yes, I think I am losing inches becuase a pair of pants that fit at the begining of the summer fell right off of me (good thing I was home when that happened). Anyway thanks again for all the great advice and I hope by chancing a few things in this woe that my wieght loss will jump-start again

Hugs
Nancy
