Thumbs down Carbwell Bars

So I'm in the store with my friend, and she tells me, "You've got to try these Carbwell bars, they're excellent!" She's so enthusiastic about them, I drop a box in the cart without reading it.

Today I remember it's in the cupboard and decide to try a bar. GET THIS--they contain, among other things, maltitol, corn syrup, high maltose corn syrup, sugar, partially hydrogenated vegetable oil, high fructose corn syrup (that's right, 3 different kinds of corn syrup!), sucralose (yup, two different sugar substitutes--not to mention the real thing), artificial flavor, etc. etc.

Good grief! Carb WELL? I think not!

So many food companies are jumping on the low carb bandwagon when they have no idea what low carb really is. The sad thing is they prey on people that don't know any better either. When I was in my first two weeks of low carbing I got a ton of Advant Edge low carb bars. They were on sale. Then when I found this site a few days later I read more info on them. Of course the Curves book didn't suggest them, I just took it upon myself to adjust the diet a bit. They had 23 grams of carbs! And worse they misled people by saying on the front "2g impact carbs". Boy am I glad I learned that lesson early.

I suspect your friend is as clueless as I was.

i have came to the realization when i do my shopping instead of dropping items in the cart... i spend 2x as much time in the store now than i ever would have.. reading reading reading.. when i am unable to read ingrediants.. it goes back on the shelf..

Now i admit i have done my share of impuls buying but usualy those things were grose and are lingering towards the back of my cubards or have long ago seen my compost bin or trash can. i must say that my compost bin has remained rather full since starting this WOL.. if it is from buying TO many fresh veggies and haveing them go bad befor they all get eaten.. .

Carbwell bars hrmm it is actualy one of those impuls coupon buyings i did.. and well.. w/ out reading the back (thanks for makeing me realize i never did read that box..) i actualy liked them.. i used them for mornings when i worked earlie and wouldnt get to eat till well after 1pm.. they are very mouth filling.. but.. for me they are to sweet and to chewie.. but they put something in my tummy befor being surounded by food all morning and none of it being my own..

just my 2cents.. (okay just my dollars worth lol)

I'm just sitting here, shaking my head. I guess that's no worse than Post's cereal/granola type "lowcarb" bars. I quit reading the ingredients when I got to the raisins. Good grief!! A Newbie starting Induction could probably tell you that eating raisins is NOT OKAY. Alright, so maybe you'd get a little fiber with the raisins. (Just add some Metamucil to your smoothie and get over it!)

I bought a "lowcarb" recipe magazine a couple of months ago and 90% of the recipes called for sugar, honey, some sort of bread products, etc. They explained this by saying that they were showing alot of recipes in different ranges of carb amounts so you could "pick and choose". I choose NOT to eat sugar. Duh. What a waste of money!

It bothers me that newbys go on atkins, buy all the junk, and then blame The atkins diet when they don't lose weight. I agree. Its best to avoid all that stuff.
