Default Lost Inches, But No Weight...

Has anyone had this happen to them... I was on Induction for the 2 weeks. By the middle of the second week, I had lost 4 inches off my waist with no significant drop on the scale. I wear a size 14 normally, and I had a few clothes that were a bit small begin to fit. A new size 12 dress I've had for a couple of months can now fit (snuggly however). I had reasonably large 'tires' around my waist and back, and they are almost gone. I came Atkins for a week and am now back on from today. It wasn't hard at all to follow, but run out of food options. I am okay with it though, and just hate the fact that the scale doesn't tell me how much I've lost. In addition, my problem areas for weight loss are my chest and face (don't laugh). Weight gain tends to show on my 'very' round face and my chest gets much bigger and tends to go down with weight loss.

Anyone can relate to my scenario, where inches were lost but no 'weight'??

    Welcome

Yes, that happens all the time. In the first 1-2 weeks you are losing lots of water weight which tends to puff and bloat the body. After it is gone, you will start losing fat and sometimes you will lose inches and sometimes weight; and sometimes you will lose both!

Don't worry about, just keep at it.

Have you read the Atkins New Diet Revolution book? If not, you really should read it. You shouldn't be getting bored with the food. After the first 2 weeks you are supposed to add in some extra things to help it stay interesting.

Make sure you are eating enough veggies.

If you like, post a list of the things you usually eat and I'll help you with the menu.

seconding what marcie says: it's VERY normal for it to cycle. some weeks you lose pounds, some inches, some both, some neither! you've gotta remember that your body is changing like crazy, and it takes a bit for it to "morph" into the new, fitter you. just keep track of your progress several ways, inches, pounds, clothes, energy level, whatever, and appreciate success in the many forms it comes in.

you'll also learn more low-carb choices. i recommend getting a cookbook, checking out the recipies here, or asking the fine folks here for their favorites. there's some great, healthy stuff out there! good luck.

Remember--unless someone is looking over your shoulder when you weigh, it is the inches they see and not the numbers on the scale! And. . .yeah it is perfectly normal to have one and not the other and sometimes both and sometimes neither--I think that makes sense!

Thumbs up Re: Lost Inches, But No Weight...

    Hi Gospelgyal -

Welcome from California - I love that you are connecting from West Indies - years ago I attended support group meetings - just people in my town. Now I don't leave my home and get support from all over the world ! Isn't it great!

You'll find this a great place of encouragement. Getting the book is EXTREAMLY helpful - I have read parts twice and probably should read other parts again and again. Need to fit that into my schedule somehow. Also, I've receive lots of great pointers here as I've read various posts. And when I have a question many are so helpful.

About the face and boobs- sounds like we have similar genetic "fat" makeup. I really loose my bust line when I lose weight. :crying: And about five years ago when I slimmed down more than I have in the last 20 years I was amazed at how slim my face actually was. Now I am very round faced...you're not alone.

Hang in there - keep up the good work - inches are the object of the diet!

Welcome. I too lost inches during induction and the scale didn't move much-then I had a 6lb loss and only 1/2 inch loss on my waist-no where else. My chest size hasn't changed at all. I think you will see it change every week as to where you will lose if you lose at all. Even though the scale says different, I actually feel slimmer when losing the inches happens-gives me incentive to continue with what i'm doing.
Definately read the whole book-I refer back to it very often.
I don't use a lot of low carb items yet but I started inventing my own items to fit my goal and you can actually make many good items to eat. I devote one day a weekend to cook up a storm and freeze them for the week for my lunches. DH is not low carbing and does not like many vegetables so I still cook potatoes etc for him and son-it doesn't even bother me anymore not to eat them. Last night, I made cheeseburgers and while they were heaping their items on bread-I had mine wiht a slice of onion, tomato-alittle mayo on 2 lettuce leaves-the lettuce made it taste so fresh. Can't beat that.
Well good luck-lots of wonderful support here-check in often

Hi. It's me again... Thanks for your informative replies. I am very determined with this diet and even my friends notice how determined I am. I am now down to a size 12 dress from a size 14 two weeks ago. (And considering that I came off for a week). I've lost 9 pounds so far, 3 inches off my waistline. Last week, it was 4 inches ... don't ask! Anyway, I am pleased so far because before I went on it, I had NO energy at all, and am only 28. Was beginning to feel like 40 years old.... I decided to do something!
Because I am only 5'4 and weigh 171, I look a bit chubby, wait - not a bit - a whole lot chubby! I am fueled by my desire to be thin again. I showed a friend a picture of myself a year ago (at about 185 pounds guestimate) and she couldn't believe it was me. She couldn't even see my neck she says. LOL. Made me feel good to know that I don't look like that anymore. I am not at 135 yet, but losing about 15 pounds a month, I will be there in about 2 months more. Yippeee!!!!

Dorecia - i'm glad to see your enthusiams. a quick head's up, though: please be aware that you CANNOT count on 15 pounds a month, particularly at your current size. weightloss early on is fastest, and it does slow down after the first couple of weeks. also, you will at some point need to adjust your thinking away from "diet" towards lifestyle. diet is temporary. if you go back to eating the way you used to, you will put all the weight back on, so you can't live in a diet world.

that said, postivie attitudes do wonders!
