| The eliptical trainer at my gym gives a calorie read-out. I notice after 30 minutes, the digital reader states around 300 calories burned--far higher than the 150 cal per 1/2 hr usually burned on the statiionary bike. Does the trainer really burn that many more calories than the bike? The one at my gym has the arm poles like skiing.

| from what i have learned, those machine's calorie counters are often grossly overstated. you enter your weight and age - but these factors alone are not enough to determine how much you are truly burning. at best, it's an estimate. my elliptical trainer at the gym always reads 400 calories after a 30 min wkout, but i usually just cut that in half, to be safe. |

| I totally agree Alida. I never really focus on the calories, i try to focus on the time and the distance. usually the calories are estimated on the average individual and lets face it everyone is not the same.
