| I?m really worry about water retention. When I went to my parents home for holidays I had a looong talk to my father about it. He is a doctor and his opinion is very important to me. BTW, he is on this WOE too, so he is not a doctor thar hate Atkins. So, I use to retain a LOT of water and during TOM it?s worst. Before the holidays I was drinking 1.3 gallons of water/day and 40 oz of GT/day and I was so swollen. I was monitoring my weight everyday and I could see the water weight variations. My father say to me that 210 oz was SO MUTCH water ant this amount makes me to retain. Ok, I make a lot of p**, but this is not enough. So during the holidays I slow down with the GT and my water intake (max 65 oz/day) to see what happens with my water retention. Ok, I lost 4 pds during holidays and I?m a member of the turtles club!!! Another data, I gained 3 pds in the last day of TOM (yesterday) and today I lost 2 pds. Usually this 3 pds will stay with me for (at least) one week. So, my question is... How much water should we drink? I?m afraid that this is different for any people and the recomendations of water, water, water every day is imprecise. What do you think?

| The general rule around here is 1/2 your body weight in oz, so you are drinking about twice as much as you should. I give it my best to get the 64 oz that Atkins recommends, but most days I do manage the 1/2 weight of 100 oz. I do think you should cut your intake in about 1/2.

| At your current weight, about a 100 oz of fluid a day should be good (approx. 1/2 oz. of water for each pound of body weight, as Mary Kay notes). Even though I'm fairly short (5'4"), I can gain and lose 2 to 3 lbs of water weight within a 24-hour period. So, I tend to always weight at the same time of day and to interpret the value rather loosely. Because of the flucuating water weight, I just figure my "real" weight is within 1.5 lbs of whatever shows on the scales.
