| Back in the beginning of 2003, when I first did induction, I didn't know about deducting the fiber count from the total carbs. Wow--it must have been hard to get enough to eat! This time, I can pretty much pile on the legal veggies, and still come in under 20-25 carbs for the day. And it's much healthier to have the extra fiber, too. On these cold winter mornings, my favorite hi-fiber trick is a mixture of unprocessed wheat bran with flaxseed meal and whey protein (the stuff I use is vanilla flavor with Splenda), and some water. Nuke that for a minute or two, and you've got a quick and simple tummy-full of warm to start the day. Fiber is our friend! |

| Wow, Barb, you really must have been thinking that low carb was almost impossible if you did not deduct fiber! I think your recipe is worth a try. It's probably cheaper than my Flax-O-Meal. Just bought 2 packages at Hen House at about $6.70 each. But I love that stuff! Would you post your "recipe"?

| Alida, check out the Recipes section for variations. I go for simple. Equal parts: Ground flaxseed (flaxseed meal) Unprocessed wheat bran (I usually keep this mixture premade in the freezer, and dip out about 1/2 cup per serving) Stir in: 1 cup water (a little more if you use the protein) Optional: 1/4 c. Whey protein or soy protein If the protein is unsweetened, add Splenda, one packet, or to taste. Nuke for about 1 minute, stir and nuke for another minute or so--careful it doesn't boil over. You can add cinnamon, low-carb syrup or flavoring, cream, butter, chopped nuts, or whatever you like to make variations. I get the bran at Wild Oats. |

| Sounds simple . . . and easy! I think I have all the stuff . . . yes, just checked. Think I'll try it this afternoon. Thanks, Barb!

| I tried this yesterday, Barb, and I have to say it was quite good . . . and a rather large bowl, too! I did add a little liquid splenda and cinnamon. Although higher in calories (230) than my usual Flax-O-Meal, it packs a whopping 14.1 grams of fiber! Net carbs are 4. Thanks for the recipe. I know others have provided their recipes for a hot flax cereal, I just never got around to trying them.

| You can try whatever protein you have, and see how it tastes. However, I often make this cereal without the protein, and like it very well that way, too. Adjust the amount of water to suit yourself as to consistency. The Atkins SHAKE mix is probably the closest equivalent to the whey protein I have, which has a sweetener in it. Check the label for the ingredients. |

| I use Maggies, which is pretty much like that. I make a big zip-lock freezer bag up of it and throw a 1/3 c measuring cup in with it and throw the whole thing in the fridge for easy mornings. I put a measure of the cereal in a bowl, (with a pkt of splenda) - just throw a cup of water in the microwave for 2 minutes, then pour it over the cereal until I like the texture. usually I use sf syrup, but I think tomorrow I'll have cinnamon. Sounds good. Last year, I even took the bag on vacation. Made it real nice on those mornings when the 'boys' had their Krispy Kremes. This year, the place we are staying at has a KK right behind it. Sheesh. But I wasn't tempted last year, and having the cereal makes it easy to resist - cause I like it!! (wish I could find a substitute for strawberry daquiris)
