| Husband and I will be visiting with friends in Florida next month. We will be guests in their home. From the grapevine, I have heard she has gained quite a bit of weight, and serves lots of potatoes, desserts, etc. Is there any polite way of letting her know of our low carb lifestyle? Maybe I should just pack a few necessities (flax cereal, liquid splenda, maybe even some Atkins bars, etc.) and "go with the flow." I know I will probably come home with some extra pounds, but that's OK. Maybe I'll even take my copy of DANDR. Perhaps my success may spark an interest!

| I would be open and tell her of your new found healthy way of eating. Maybe offer to go to the store help her with meals. You want to show her what a great WOE this is then you should show her how much you enjoy it. Now you may want to have a few treats while on vacation but I wouldn't tank your whole plan the entire time. And as many people take their hosts out for supper perhaps you could pick someplace that has som e options for you and not something like italian...though even some itlatian places have some pasta-free dishes.

| That was one avenue I thought of . . . going to the store with her and helping with meals. I do that, anyway! Sometimes, when staying with friends, it ends up not really being a vacation because I do so much work in the kitchen, which is something I don't do at home! But hopefully the weather will be lovely and I know the company will be fun. And of course we will take them out to dinner. Florida = FISH! And I am not planning on anything NOT low carb. Just sometimes when you are not in control, it becomes hard to really watch all the ingredients, etc. Thanks for your input, Noel! I do appreciate it.

| great ideas noel! i find that i just pick around things i dont eat.. i really dont usually mention my low carb unless someone asks.. because in my experience it seems if you DO tell them what you DONT eat.. it tends to make them WANT to give you things you dont want.. and give you 100 reasons why you SHOULD eat them..*L* of course.. i may just be paranoid there ..*L* i read on another site about a KIT that they make up to travel with.. different ingredients that they dont find in everyones resturaunt or kitchen in your case.. ya might just make her a TO DIE FOR LC cheese cake and let them ALL know you arent SUFFERING and deprived..;-) i always used to take jerky and nuts .. and a low carb atkins bar along with me when i left home for the weekend... but i dont think i will do that anymore...not really good choices for me as i have realized... but.. anyone who cooks should be able to take a FEW items (thicknthin and maybe a low carb bake mix ) to anothers home and make up wonderful things... steak and potatoes? scoot the potato around and eat the veggie or salad .. if someone is watching WHAT YOU EAT.. instead of enjoying your COMPANY... then maybe you need to find different friends..*L* have fun alida when you go.. i am sooooooo jealous..;-) |

| i also like to take guests out for breakfast or brunch... lots of good things i can eat (eggs... bacon.. sausage..ect.. brunch usually has meat and salad bars..) everyone gets what THEY eat.... and i get what i need... besides... they are so busy up and down at the buffet that they dont pay much attention to what you are or arent eating.. |

| When I first started on Atkins......I told people what I was doing and they all went along with it. No problems. I bring alot of my foods when we go visiting for the weekend. People go out of there way to have what I can eat, so I don't go off plan. |

| I will have to agree with Larina.... I'm pretty open now about my lifestyle.... and for the most part, peopel are extremely open to makign sure there is atleast meat and veggies... or some form of LC option. When I go to visit Andrew, his roommate's girlfriend(who lives there) actually go shopping with me to find LC foods that we can cook while we are there. It's nice. And his roomie could stand to get "healthier", so I make sure that the food isn't just rabbit food... I'm trying to turn him onto LC. He's Andrew's bestfriend and I want him to be around for awile! |

| Thanks, everyone! I really appreciate all the tips. I am going to take my stash bag, just in case, filled with portable lc foods. But it all comes down to me and the choices I make. One thing I am finding out is that the closer I get to goal, the happier I am to slow my loss down a little and enjoy my food (still all LC) more. So it takes me a month or two longer to make my goal . . . who cares!
