Talking My grocery list:

As most of you know, I belong to a group of ladies who are called "The Dr.Phil-good Girls". We meet each week to discuss Dr.Phils books and shows, and support one another in our weight-loss efforts.

As part of my accountability, I "have to" check in with the group daily, via e-mail to let them know if I exercised or not, since this is my major weakness. If I don't exercise, I'm "not allowed" to weigh the next day, and we all know I'm a scale junkie!

Anyway, during my Saturday check in, I decided to list some of the things I bought at the grocery store for my eating plan. I said "I'm not trying to push my ( Susan's too) lowcarb lifestyle on anyone, I just want to show you all what good stuff we eat! LOL!"

Here was my list:
~a Nighthawks entree that had a meat patty and broccoli side
~a bunch of radishes
~Kroger brand "No Sugar Added, Less Sodium" bacon
~CarbCountdown Chocolate "milk"
~2 packs sliced turkey to make rolls ups with...
~a tub of Philly brand Chive and Onion cream cheese
~a box of Bigelow Earl Grey Green tea (my current fave)
~ 2 bunches of celery
~2 cans of spinach (gonna make quiche or dip...)
~2 cups of Kroger's CarbMaster brand l/c yogurt (it's cheap and good!)
~a variety box of Tazo teas
~a jar of Meat flavored Ragu spaghetti sauce (5 carbs per half cup)
~2 packs of Hunts No Sugar Added pudding (6 carbs per serving cup)
~a can of asparagus
~a bag of ground flax meal
~Baby Bonbel cheeses
~a bag of frozen shrimp
~a dozen Eggland's Best eggs ( I usually have a coupon, and yes, they ARE better eggs!)
~a bottle of Ken's Buttermilk Ranch salad dressing (1 carb per serving)
~a bag of salad
and
~a box of CarbOptions fruit and cream popsicle-type ice cream bars

I guess the last entry caught the attention of one member, who is popsicle-addicted! She responded with this:"What an awesome grocery list. I guess I did not realize there are so many things you can have on the low carb plan! I always think- meat, fish, eggs, cheese- for some reason. What do you do with the spaghetti sauce?"

So, I answered her, explaining that DH eats the whole thing: pasta, meat, and sauce. DD eats only pasta and sauce. And I have the meat, a measured amount of sauce, and mozzarella on top.

Who knows, maybe I'll get some "converts". God knows we (here) eat well!

How can I continue to "encourage" people to try lowcarb? Since I'm a Turtle, my losses aren't too convincing.

Your list sounds great.

I would think the fact that you can eat so well and still maintain some losses is a great selling point. Just the eating well does me right.

OOOps! I forgot to put cream cheese on the list. I keep a couple of packs on hand all the time. You never know what I might make with it next! Shrimp dip, cheesecake, fudge.....mmmmm. The key with cream cheese is: moderation!

Welcome, Jenn.

The grocery list for induction would best be built around the list of induction friendly foods listed in DANDR (Dr. Atkins New Diet Revolution). Stick to that, and you'll be fine!

Jenn, I think Atkins.com has a list of Induction foods, but since you have the book, keep it with you and take Maggie's advice: stick to it!

PQ-I used it to roll up in ham or turkey for a snack or lunch.....not so much any more since I try to avoid dairy as much as possible. It's really good and it doesn't take much, which is good, because cream cheese is very calorie-dense.

Post-Induction, a tub of cream cheese, and a pack of (be very picky) lunch meat (without sugar) are good things to throw in a little cooler to take along....you can use a spoon, fork, or knife to spread a little cream cheese in the center of the meat and roll it up.

For a quick appetizer at parties, roll up l/c tortillas, cream cheese, meat, pickles, olives, whatever....and slice like cookies....they're called pinwheels and you can make them any way you want to.

Hey Maxi! I think the fact that you can continue to eat well even through times of slow losses are proof enough. Eventually others will see that although your losses have been slow, they have been consistant, and I bet you cheat a lot less than the low fat group!
