Hi! Glad you're feeling better.

I'm a regular exerciser. Right now I'm a month into Atkins restart, beginning with two weeks of induction at 20 carbs. I've upped it to 30 carbs currently, which I plan to do for another couple of weeks. I'm trying to work the plan more precisely this time, in order to determine some range of carb level for weight loss as well as maintenance. I have a stubborn set-point about five lbs lower than where I am now, so we'll see.

Anyway, I suggest you determine your carb level based on where you are in the program. Stick to one level for at least one week, probably more, and see how that feels. Don't forget that you can subtract FIBER from the total carb count. For me, that means I eat as much as 50 total carbs/day in veggies, legal fruits, low-carb dairy, and cereal (wheat bran/flaxseed).

You can track your nutrition at Fitday.com, which calculates the fiber for you, among other things. I use this religiously.

As with everything else, YMMV. Fitday says my body needs 2200 calories a day for basal functions plus activities. My experience says less. So I try to keep the calories at about 1500. (I'm 58 yrs old, which is a factor, too). I'm never hungry, and I have plenty of energy for daily exercise.

tracy- hiding the scale sounds like a great idea! if it's getting in the way of your success, then so be it! there are several folks around who are card-carrying members of the "scale-avoiders" club and do great with it...hang in, 'cause that's how it works for you!

Well i wont add much, if youre feeling great doing low carb then great. But ive read so many times that low carb is not for everyone. You need to decide which diet makes you feel great and then stick with it until the results show.
