Hi Everyone
I know, I was complaining last week, and HERE I GO AGAIN. I've been doing everything right, I've taken all your suggestions and advice and incorporated them and yet, I still haven't lost a pound. Oh I've lost inches, but no actual weight in like 2 weeks. Is that normal? Wouldn't you think the scale would have moved at least a pound?!?!? I don't know, i think i'm getting depressed about the whole thing. I stay off the scale then I get on it days later and nothing and it bums me out completely. Anyone else ever go thru the same things??

Thanks for listening, sorry to be such a big baby about it!

At least you are losing inches...so you are losing!
It could be that you are building muscle while losing fat...and inch for inch, muscle weighs more than fat.

But I do understand your irritation at not losing weight. I'm there myself. Today I weighed in at 202.5, which is exactly what I weighed 15 days ago. Before that, I was stuck in the 205 range for 17 days. It's taken me almost 1 1/2 months to lose 4 pounds. At this rate, I'll not reach my goal until 2008.

But I'm not giving up. I'm staying on plan...even increasing my calories and carbs for a couple days. And I hope that my body will get past this slump and get back on the right track again.

We all share your frustration. The promises are so glowing--it's going to work! And then...and then...

Still, try to look at it this way. Low carb is not a temporary diet--the kind of thing you may have tried before. And failed at before. It's a way of life. The longer you spend thinking about it, playing with the options, learning the techniques, the more habitual it becomes. Something you can live with for life.

Along the way, you'll be accomplishing a lot of healthy things, one of which is a gradual (and more likely to be permanent) weight loss.

I know. Small consolation. But it's the truth.

tcpd:

Please dont give up. You may just be a "turtle" like so many people. It sounds like you are working out a lot and so are probably gaining muscle. The mere fact that you are losing inches is a great measure of success. There are folks on this board who dont ever get on the scale. They go simply by the way their clothes are fitting. It sounds like yours are fitting better, and i would bet you are feeling better all around on this WOE. The pounds will come off jsut as they are supposed to. Let your body find its way and just keep doing, dy by day what you know to do.

Question--are you eating enough carbs, especially with the exercise you are doing?

Hang in there!

Thanks....I won't give up because i DO feel better. I really am enjoying the exercising too. I can't believe that just came out of my mouth, but i do! lol. I'm just sooooo depressed the scale isn't moving nor are my jeans any looser even though i measure and i know i'm losing inches.

I don't know how many carbs I'm suppose to be eating with all the exercise.

Just an FYI I go to the gym 4 times a week. I walk on the treadmill for 35 minutes then get on the bike or eliptical for an additional 15-20 minutes. I then lift weights. I'm not heavy into lifting, i'm just trying to work on my arms but I only do 12 reps and only do 1 set.

On Saturdays i take an hour long spinning class. I am eating like eggs/bacon with some cheese sometimes for breakfast. I'm not into breakfast that much but i'm trying to eat it.

Lunch consists of a salad with italian dressing or ranch with chicken/bacon. I've started adding tomatoes to the mixture.

Dinner is usually meat with lots of green veggies.

Snack is berries or i eat some chicken or some form of meat. For a treat i do eat some of the lc ice cream, but thats usually once a week if that.

I drink 4-5 cups of green tea only using Splenda to sweeten. I drinking up to 100 oz of water. I'm not too good with the water thing, but i'm trying to get it all in me! lol.

Other than that, i don't know what i'm doing wrong??????

Thanks so much for listening to me whine yet again!!!

Tracy, I understand your frustration. I'm going on my fourth week of only losing a pound since the beginning of January (and I have a lot more to lose so you'd think I'd lose it faster). I've told myself that I may as well quit, that I should go to a low fat plan, that I should just be hungry all the time...you name it. But in the end I've come to my senses. I'm really trying not to look at this as a "diet" but the hea;thiest way of eating for me. I've been in a bad place with that but now I am looking at the big picture. Will your life go on whether you are doing low carb or not? Of course. Are you feeling satisfied and not hungry all day like Atkins says you should be? Well then why not just stick with it and let the long term results speak for themselves. In the spring when they have the health fair I am actually looking forward to getting my bloodwork done. I know my levels are in a better place because I feel better.

Hang in there. The inches are coming off so the pounds will soon follow.

Don't give up! It's the honest truth that the scale, your body, your clothes, your brain, they all run on their own schedules, and never do anything at the same time. I found this to be true, and so has my DH. He's been LC since 1/1 and was about to give up because he was aggravated at the scale numbers, then suddenly discovered he needed a belt, which the scale was firmly denying. Now he's at 14 pounds lost, and thinks his clothes should be LOOSER for all that scale weight. *sigh* I myself have lost 4 more pounds this month, after the scale has been set at 136 since July. Just keep plugging along! Never give up on yourself!

A kind word of advice, and I'm sure a few others on this board will agree...GET RID OF YOUR SCALE!!! Put it somewhere where you will not be able to easily get on it whenever you feel like it! SInce you are losing inches, MOST IMPORTANTLY, cuz that is where you SEE results (you getting smaller), get yourself a pair of "progress pants". Put a pair of pants on now that are somewhat tight.....maybe REALLY tight, and then try them on every week or 2. THAT is how you should gage your weight loss for the time being because you are so active. The scale is driving you NUTS! It has a tendency to do that. Get the scale out maybe once a month or two. Trust me....it is so easy to get on that thing whenever you feel like it. Hehe...

Just my two cents!

You will succeed...just relax and enjoy RIGHT NOW... This WOE isn't a diet, but a way of eating to live really... You have a long time to get the weight off... Focus on staying OP and trying your PP's on every now and again.

okay.. here is what i have been told today by my trainer at the gym.. i took nearly 9-10 months off from working out. during that time i lost 40lbs... around the holidays i started putting lbs back on .. so i decided it was time to get back to the gym.. i have been back almost a month now if not a month.. well.. im so frustrated also beacuse the scale has done nothing but maby 2 lbs here or there.. (depnding on what i ate that morning! or how much water i have drank by the time i weigh my self at the gym..) he explaind to me that the weight i was looseing was muscle and fat... now im buidling muscle agin.. and looseing some fat.. fat weighing less than muscle is not makeing much of a difrence beacuse im buidling that muscle back.. he told me to STAY OFF THE SCALE for at least 1 more month.. he promises once i do that i should see a difrence.. dont know if i can w/hold but im going to try not to take it so personal.. i will try to just cope w/ it and stride on...

hang in there.. you will notice one day a BIG difrence on the scale and it will floor you... trust me.. is what happend when i was looseing alot of weight at one time..

you will start dropping realy soon!

Nothing new to tell you...keep working at it...I didn't lose anything but inches all summer long and agian now since halloween I have only lost a total of 1 lb...but my pants fit so much differently it amazes me that nothing fits quite right again and I haven't lost any weight! the inches is what teh eye sees...only your eyes see the scale number...everyone else sees the inches falling of fyour body...that means you are losing fat and gaining muscle at the same rate and eventually that muscle will burn fat faster than you can build muscle then you will see a huge drop all at once.

Do yourself a favor and throw that d@mned scale out the window...You are young, cute, working out, and eating properly, just keep up the good work, and take it one day at a time, it's NOT gonna happen overnight, (as much as i wish it would, being the impatient type myself)but if you have faith and perservenence, it WILL happen.
Chin up!!!!

tracy-you listed off a significant exercise program, which builds muscle, which weighs more than fat.

bottom line: if you are seeing indications of progress in inches, how you're feeling, etc, etc etc why would you refuse to "count" that because the numbers on that evil little machine haven't caught up? don't confuse what we use to measure progress as the acutal progress.

Tracy,

I understand your frustration. I feel the same. But Inches DO make a difference. I have lost VERY little since school started in Sept. (I am a teacher so I still measure every length of time in refrence to a school year) I mean only like 5 or 6 pounds since august. But things have definately been happening. I have gone from a tight size 16 to a comfy fitting 12 in pants. Since Christmas I have lost only 2 pounds and the XL sweaters which I bought for myself are just FAR to big. I will need to pass them on. So even though the scale is not showing much of a difference DONT GIVE UP! Your body is still doing something.

Tracy,
We all go through what your are and feel the frustration. Think about where you will be if you quit. You will not only feel worse, you will GAIN inches and weight on the scale. It is much better to feel good, loose inches and eventually the scale will go down. LIke everbody else says only your eyes see the numbers on the scale, everybody sees inches comming off. Good luck and keep on keeping on.

Talking Re: Feel like giving up.....

Morning Everyone...
Thanks so much for the kind words and total inspiration!! I'm not sure why in the world i have it in my head that the scale should move as well as my waist line. So...guess what I did....I had my hubby hide it from me! LOL Desperate times calls for desperate measures. I'm going to keep up with my routine, stick with this WOL and exercise and just keep a truckin! I could not do this w/o you guys, I truly appreciate it more than you know.

My only question is how many carbs a day should I be eating with the exercise plan I follow??

Thanks again everyone!!!!!!!
