I woke up this morning, and did my normal morning ritual and stepped on the scale before I took a shower. I was at 245. I was quiet about it...didn't jump for joy at another pound gone...but inside, I was singing. I took my shower, got dressed, and am sitting at work looking out at the dreary weather and it occured to me. I love this wol, I love the fact that I'm eating delicious foods, and the weight is coming off. I'm now at 16 pounds lost in 28 days... which is pretty signifigant, but bound to slow down fairly soon I'm sure. The hardest part is being hopeful on the days when there's no change at all...or if there's a change upwards for whatever reason I don't comprehend. I remember reading on this board about someone who really 'tricked' the system by figuring out her CCL and then really alternating it so that somedays she'd have 50 carbs, and other days only 20... she kept her body guessing. That's my goal at this point, to figureout the CCL level for my body. I can't remember her name, maybe someone knows who I'm talking about and can tell me so I can go searching for her posts for guidance. It makes sense to me. She knows the carb limit at which point she gains..and go bump right up against it... and then have a low or medium day. This is really more of 'thinking outloud' bit than any question or information - so forgive me if it's one of those posts that you go 'huh?' about. I hope you guys all have a wonderful day. Dee

Good going! I know that feeling, too. As for the CCL thing--in two years of low-carbing, I've never quite been able to work that out consistently. I'm trying this time, because I've had a real problem with a long, long plateau about five lbs. above what I consider my goal weight. I'd really like to get there! I'm tracking carbs at Fitday.com, and keeping to the same level for at least two weeks, as I move through OWL. It isn't easy to hit those 5 gram increments, but I'm going to try. When I get a little closer to goal, I'm going to try that up one day/down one day idea. It's an average over time that usually works for most things.

I'm with you Barb -- I have added Strawberries this week. I'll see how it goes - I'm still losing, so next week, I'll add something else that's a 5 carb item to the meal. See how that goes. This is where it gets trying...

If you like berries, try this. I buy frozen mixed berries in a big bag at Costco. I can pour out a measured amount, and not have to worry about fresh fruit spoiling. I use these in flax/bran cereal (they thaw fast in the hot cereal), in low-carb yogurt (another way to add 5 gms), and sometimes just as a pop-in-the-mouth treat.

| The CCLL is a tough number to find exactly...but if you can find a number hwere for two or three weeks you dont gain/don't lose...you are there...then drop just below it...it does work...in the b3eginning I had that number and now with working out 5X a week and teaching all day and being very active with the children...I am not so sure where that number is...that and the fact I haven't lost but one pound since October makes it hard...though I did this all summer too...stayed the same weight that is! I am guessing mine to be somewhere around 60 carbs...which is where it was last summer/spring...but I really don't know...I only lost 1 lb on 20gs a day for 2 weeks. The alternating does work for some however...I have a friend who lost 40lbs doing 20/45/20/45 for over 4 months. She didn't lose at 50 and gained at 60.

I am wondering where calories fit into this cycling. Do calories have to stay the same as carbs change or can we just forget about calories? This cycling reminds me of the "re-feed" phenomenon many low carbers experience where they eat significantly more calories and/or carbs for a day or two and then go back to strict low carbing. I know that works but my cravings usually get so out of control that my re-feed lasts for up to a week and makes it REALLY hard to get back on track. any thoughts anybody?

Cala, I'm part of the CCC Challenge, so I'm tracking my calories. I've come to believe that if I can get my daily carbs in - and it being a healthy amount of carbs without being exhorbatant on my calories, it's a good thing. This is primarily regarding the carbs. I don't have the book with me because I'm at the office - but if memory, everyone is SUPPOSED to know their CCL so that they can do LC to the best of their abilities. If you stay under that number, you should continue to loose. Unless of course you stall b/c the sun has moved an inch, or it rained an inch, or you had too little/too much of something, or not enough of something else, or it's Friday..or Monday...whatever the reason for a stall might be. ;-)

isnt THAT the truth... so hard to figure out this losing weight process... so many variables go into the mix..certain foods seem to make a difference... high SODIUM sure does too.. alot of FIBER seems to help ME... the CCL is a tool to help... but honestly i think it is ALWAYS a juggling act..;-)

A couple of things that I think have truly made a difference this time are having yogurt (lots of healthy benefits in yogurt) which is only 5 carbs (Carb Freedom), and drinking the tea/water to the MAX! I hate drinking water all day - so I started 'hovering' on the green tea challenge. Now I have a couple of cups a day at least - it's pretty tasty with a couple of splendas. Kim - btw - I did the jalepeno thing last night...didn't manage to get it all off my hands (somehow) and when I went to put my contacts in this morning. HOLY FREAKING COW - I thought my eyeball was going to pop out. Needless to say, I'm wearing glasses today, and those contacts are crushed pork rinds (as opposed to toast!). Fortunately I wear disposables, so it's not a 'great' loss. ;-)

The Carb Freedom is made with Splenda -- here's the list of ingredients: Ultra Filtered Skim Milk, Flavor Base (whatever flavor it is), Food Startch - Modified, Citric AQcid Sucrolos, Potassium, Sorbate, and the rest is color, etc... oh, it has Whey Protien Concentrate in it as well. 5 Total Carbs. All the research has really suggested that dairy is healthy for you... we get a ton of cheese/heavy creams - yogurt is a really nice change. A friend of mine said that I can put a small amount of baby shampoo in a container and lightly swish around in it to get the Jalepeno juice out... not sure if it's worth it at all -- we'll see. Besides, if it doesn't work - the ONLY way I'm going to know it is if I put it BACK in my eye - which I am REALLY REALLY not looking forward to. ;-)

| Kim, I have the Carb Freedom yougurt and find it does not stall me. I think it's 5 carbs, although I don't worry about carbs so much now. It's more a calorie thing. Because I HAVE to keep my calories down, my carb count is usually pretty low, too -- 25 to 30. SIGH. I did NOT do Atkins the way I should have by gradually increasing my carbs. Since I am more or less STUCK at around 131 perhaps I should try mixing things up a bit. Leaving for vacation on Saturday, so this plan will have to wait for when I'm back home.
