| Hello, Just wondering if egg foo yung at a chinese restaurant (without the sauce) is ok to eat. I've looked up a bunch of recipes, and it does not appear any type of starch is used when frying it. The sauce however uses flour or corn starch, but that is served on the side anyway. But wasn't sure if maybe I was missing something. Also, what else (if anything) is ok to eat at a chinese restaurant? Seems like anything with a sauce is a problem because of thickeners like corn starch. Thanks! -dela |

| I have yet to be daring enough to try chinese restaurants. But i looked up egg foo young also and it looks like you're correct. Fitday lists shrimp egg foo young as about 5.5 net carbs per cup. Can't really advise you about what else to order from the menu. You might ask for a special order beef with broccoli with no cornstarch or msg. Or something similar. |

| I gave up on Chinese restaurants, but not without a fight. It always has more carbs than the recipes in the book. Unless you cook it yourself, it's very likely a bad deal. It just about always screwed up my Ketostix. If you have to order in a Chinese restaurant, get the Broccoli Beef, but don't make a habit of it. I don't know how they could screw that up, but they do. I think it's both the sauces (thickeners) and maybe they dredge the meat before cooking it. If you have your choice of ethnic restaurants, go to an Italian place and get an antipasto salad. Or go to a Mexican place and get the chorizo and eggs or the carnitas.
