Default How Rude

So get this. I'm at work tonight and every other Friday night when the magazine goes to print the company will have a buffet dinner. Nice perk. Anyway I'm chatting with a co-worker and I tell her that I love the homemade brownies the chef makes but I only take one because of my diet. She goes on to say well you have a lot of restrictions on that diet I hear you can't even have milk. So I say yes I don't drink milk but I can drink Half and Half and when I'm showing her the carb count on the two cartons another co-worker walk in and asks what were we looking at and she said, "Oh he was showing me the carb amounts, He's on the Fatkins diet" Sarcasm is not funny. I did not even crack a smile. Nor did the other guy.

Some people are socially challenged. Your coworker sounds as if she suffers from this affliction. I would have just said to the other guy "A mind is a terrible thing to waste, no?" and smiled sadly at the poor creature.

I'm often shocked as to how many people in this world were born without a tact gene. I work with with three or four of them myself. The sad part is, they don't even realize that they have no tact. Worse, a few think they have a sense of humor. I just shake my head and feel sorry for their spouses.

This person does not have a weight problem, even when she had her son by the time she got back from leave she lost the weight she gained.

I get kind of shocked when someone will say something to me like that. And I don't know what to say, so I just get quiet. Instead of getting mad and making a seen. I just don't think some people like when another starts to take control of their problems and make changes in their lifes to better themselfs. So they try knock you down, with sarcasm or the back handed compliment.

Thankfuly I only have to work with her and don't see her often.
I would not put up with it if I was in a personal relationship who talked to me like that.
Maybe that's why I'm still single. lol

I feel your pain. At Christmas my older sister came as close as she's ever been to being strangled. By ME! I'll explain:

As the extended family and I milled about my Uncle's home on Christmas eve, I was scoping out the desserts. The only low carb item there was a blueberry creme cake. It looked dry...and besides that, I HATE blueberries. So, I said "What the heck, it's Christmas." and proceeded to grab a piece of fudge from the plate. As soon as I took a bite, my sister squealed out "You're eating FUDGE and I brought a sugar-free dessert!" I just shrugged and said with a mouth full of fudge (for effect) "You KNOW I hate blueberries!"
At that moment, I wanted to strangle her. She let herself get up to 400 pounds, didn't feel like dieting, finessed herself into getting a gastric bypass, and let the weight loss just happen. No fuss, no bother. Easy as pie. I now outweigh her by 50 pounds and it thrills her to no end to see me struggle.

I have 2 words for her and your co-worker: "SHUT UP!"

[edit: webmaster has removed the description of what Achilles would do. Achilles - that kind of talk, even though I'm sure you didn't mean it, is inappropriate on this board.]

glad to hear you handled it better than i would have.

Achilles, You can get away with giving a guy a butt kicking if your in high school. But I'm 38, If I did that to anyone I work with I would loose a good paying job, get locked up and fined. It's not worth it. Even the thought is not worth it. Because it will eat you up inside. You have to let things go. That lady must have a lot of negitive energy in her head. She was trying to focus it on me. I kind of feel sorry for her. NOT! LOL

well, i'm out of high school, in college now. and i'm 19, i'd probably be locked up too, good thing i got all my agression out while i WAS in high school eh?

anyways, negative people like that just really tick me off, it's like they look for something to nag at, and try to upset people. it's unfortunate, but you just gotta shrug it off.

well the one comment i usualy try and pull when someone w/out a weight problem starts makeing comments about my WOE is "have you had your suggar, cholesterol, blood presure checkd? " even tho they are skinny and have never had a weight problem they could be worse off than say a 300 lb 5'6 person.. (okay maby not but.. more than likely) My husband is only by whom evers standerds that says when people are over weight - he maby is 4-5 lbs on the over weight side... he is 5'6 145 lbs.. muscluar... but he has just found out that EVERYONE in his family has been so far diagnosed w/ high cholesterol, diabetes,or some kind of heart deases. When i said to him he realy needs to take controle he shruged it off, (im anxious to see his health when i FORCE him to go to doc's here soon!) I'm going to have him check his suggar beacuse It scares me to death to think of him turning diabetic .

most of his family are built diabetic.. larger uper body tiny lower (he is not) but he was raised in a lifestyle of careless people, if they had a HIGHCARB/suggar laiden meal.. they just loaded w/ insulin.. all the time.. truely sad when people dont take hold of their problem!

Yup. Sometimes you do.

Butt kickin a female coworker at the buffet is hardly a prescription for a successful future, ya know.

Not much point in flushing an education and career over one stupid remark. I mean, working out at the prison gym and hoping that someone brings you some pork rinds on visiting day for the next several years is hardly a great career move, as I see it.
