Default Friend started on induction

A friend of mine has recently been struggling to get the scale moving again (after losing 30 lbs over the past 15 months) so we talked the other day, and I discovered she was a lot like me when it came to eating carby foods and not being able to stop (I have control over it now but not when I first started on Atkins) so I suggested Atkins to her and sent her the information from the Atkins website (the real induction - not the Atkins Essentials induction where you can have 1 slice of lc bread per day and a lc bar or shake per day...and she printed out the acceptable foods list and started following it. I'm so glad she started doing this, and she is really getting a handle on things, too...she was rather impressed by how satisfied she felt the first day and even dropped 2 lbs. I'm just so glad she is finally doing this, and she does realize this is not a diet but a lifestyle change. And I'm so glad she realized that as well. And I know some would disagree with this, but I've decided to go back to induction for just a week to support her.

That's great I just had a friend from work move back to town and he is going to start induction Monday. He said he's "inspired" by me and my losses. I think he thought he would come back this year and I would have quit (he left town right after I started).

It's always nice to help other people by sharing this WOE.

Sheyla:

I applaud your weight loss of nearly 70 pounds. According to your profile information, you've been low carbing for a little over 3 years now, and you've maintained your weight loss. You've reached your goal range, as well. For that reason (and others, as described bewlow), I think it a bad idea for you to re-induct. In my opinion, you can find other ways to be a supportive friend while your friend is going through Induction.

Help me to understand why you feel the need to change your eating patterns every few days (it seems), and are so strict with your exercise. For instance, in this post you discuss subjecting your body to a master cleanse (which is a starvation program, in essence). Then, in this post you talk of experimenting with your diet and exercise for a few days, eating non-low carb and not exercising. Then, a few days later you explicate in this post how you completed over two hours of exercise, and some of it strenuous. Yet, the day after you talked of "doing the master cleanse" for another three days this month, you talk of being satisfied with your weight right where it is (in this post).

Your body is going to get utterly confused, because I think you are a tad confused in your thinking.

I truly think you've got other issues besides weight control. Ask yourself why you feel the need to constantly change your eating regimen with such frequency. Are there outside influences telling you that you're not good enough and that you need to fix it by changing? Stick with a way of eating for more than two weeks and see how you fare. Once you've made the decision that you're not going to worry about your eating -- make it rote -- then you can focus on the inner you and find just what is the impetus behind the constant change.

I speak from experience and hope that you really look inside. When your body and mind work in harmony, you'll find peace.

Please don't misconstrue my meaning. What I've said is my own opinion and not a relflection of lowcarbeating.com.

I suspect it's a technique that keeps her focus sharp and her commitment fresh. I probably shouldn't be making assumptions about another's motives, but I think redefinition can be a very effective tool - especially during maintenance when weight control can get to be a bit of a slog. In the maintenance phase, you don't have the old perks and thrills of seeing your size shrinking, so the weight maintenance effort can start to feel a bit stale. Finding a fresh new challenge can be a good way to stay focused and keep on track.

This is unfortunate, and not the way things usually go here at LCE.

I'm sorry to see it. I hope everyone will step back and take a deep breath and try again.

I sincerely apologize for upsetting you, Sheyla. Sincerely.

Again, my comments are not a reflection of lowcarbeating.com (as stated in my post), so please do not "leave this board" because of one person's opinion.

There are 7,490 members of this community (as of this writing), so I'm confident that 1 opinion will not matter at the end of the day.

Again, my apologies to you.
