| Monday, Valentine's Day is my Anniversary. While I could do without the alcoholic drinks... and I have for two months now ... I would really like to celebrate this special day with a "few" drinks with my DH. Would be vodlka with a Diet Rite so I know that is 0 carbs, but I am also aware that it is laden with calories. I do not want to sabotage my weight loss so my question is... should I limit my calories that day in anticipation of a few drinks? Any help would be appreciated. |

| While you can certainly limit your caloric intake to offset the alcoholic beverages....the concern with alcohol is more that your body will instantly convert to burning off that alcohol before resuming to burn fat. This could take a matter of days, therefore stalling your loss a bit. It is a decision you have to choose. Happy Anniversary

| Thanks for your response and your congratulations. I see congratulations are in order for you as well! I think maybe I will just forego the alcohol... maybe just a tonic with a lime ... Thanks again! |

| Just so's ya know, most tonics contain sugar. Club soda would be a better choice. If you find a diet tonic, check to see what it is sweetened with. Many people have problems with aspartame (Equal). An occasional alcoholic drink (diet soda with clear liquor, glass of wine, lc beer) won't derail you, but, as Knowles said, it will slow your loss, 'cause you will burn the alcohol first. But, hey, it's a special occasion! Drink some extra water the next day and you should be fine.

| As an avid drinker myself.... Yes, it will slow your weight loss for a day or two (YMMV) but you can normally rebound afterwards (drink lots of water...). If you can go without, that's the better way. My LC concoctions: 1. JD and Diet Rite Cola (Diet Pepsi Vanilla is excellent but has aspertame) 2. Vodka/Rum and any of the Diet Rite flavors (Raspberry is my favorite) 3. Vodka/Rum and the Minute Maid Lite juices (mango very good...) 4. JD and the Waist Watchers Root Beer (made with splenda) 5. JD and the Waist Watchers Ginger Ale (made with splenda) 6. LC Margarita (Te-kill-ya, splenda, lime juice, water, ice) 7. Baja Bob's mixes (don't see them around as much nowadays...)

| some folks choose to have a drink on occassion. so long as you understand that your body will stop burning fat to burn the booze off, you can make an informed choice. i would also warn you: if you do decide to drink, low carb makes you VERY sensitive to alcohol. quirk of the way of eating. so expect to drink much less, keep the sugar content as low as you can (i.e. the frou-frou stuff i drank before if i'm not careful can make me sick), and know that if you can usually drink 4, you'll probably drink 1 instead and feel the same thing...or like that anyway.

| Thanks to all of your replies. Love those drink suggestions Wolfman! Didn't drink as planned list night. By the time I arrived home from the office, DH was already into his bottle of Goldschlager and so I decided (or was forced) to be the responsible one and be the DD. Guess I saved a few calories and would have probably just felt guilty today as I am not nearly close enough to my goal to be lavishing in alcoholic heaven! Thinking all those shots of Goldschlager with the DH but the extra 45 pounds on me anyway! Again, thanks for all your input. You guys are the best! |

| Brandi~ I plugged both Vodka and Rum into Fitday and neither have any carbs. As far as I can tell; Looks like its the lesser of two evils... Have fun! |
