Default coconut oil

I've read through a couple of forums about VCO to find out it I bought the right stuff at $15.99 for a 16 oz jar...to have bought the wrong stuff would really be crappy!!

It's called Nature's Vision Finest, 100% pure natural coconut oil.
Is this ok

15.99 , holy crap. I must be buying the wrong stuff. I purchase mine from 2 places Walmart for about 3 bucks if i can recall and this asian store a 16 oz jar is like 4 bucks. It meets all of the physical characteristics ive read about, but now im worried that i may have been using the wrong thing. But i dont think i could afford to frequently use the 15.99 stuff.

Also suenos, while we're on the coconut thing, getting in enough to make difference takes using a lot of oil so i also drink the coconut milk every morning. I make a blend of 1/3 cup of coconut milk with 1/3 cup of hood choc. milk and a dash of davinci coconut syrup, stir very very well and down it, its actually quite delicious. I get the milk from the commissary for about .60 a can. I also use the milk in place of any recipe that call for liquid whenever i think it will work, lol.

Another way that i add coconut is through eating it fresh out of the shell, love it as well. And i also use the shredded unsweetened dry version in various recipes. With the oil being so expensive there are other ways of getting the coconut fat(good fat, i might add) into your body.

well let go research, now im worried im using the wrong oil. good luck.

I read a thing about putting it in green tea which is what I've done for the past couple of days.... EXTREMELY oily but drinkable!

Now is it ok also to drink the 2 TBS at one time in the morning and leave it at that for the day? Or do you need to space it out like the ACV?

I know that coconut oil is supposed to be healthier than corn or canola oil. (Good to know I buy it at Walmart, because I've been looking for it.) But I don't know what other benefits coconut has. Why would you drink the milk?

I do like the unsweetened shredded coconut mixed with a little liquid sucralose and s/f coconut syrup. I sometimes add a bit of ricotta cheese, unsweetened cocoa and more sweetener for an "Almond Joy" like pudding.

If you have a slow metabolism, i read it can help boost metabolism by as much as 50%. Great for skin and hair. Increased energy levels and helps stablize blood sugar. I also read that is helps strengthen the immune system, dont know how true that is had 2 terrible colds this season, lol. I read in one magazine that a low carb diet really reaps the benefits of this oil. The article i read suggests using the 3.5 tablespoons of the oil or 10 oz of milk or half of a fresh coconut.
I tried adding the oil to the tea, just too oily for me, so i go with the milk/oil on most days.

Here's a link to a thread on coconut oil we had a while ago:

Oh That Crazy Coconut Oil

In general, coconut oil is like any other oil--the more "processed" it is, the less healthy and nutritious. The very best virgin or minimally processed coconut oil will be expensive. It will smell mildly of coconuts, and may even have small bits of coconut in it. Anything really cheap has probably been heat processed and really should be avoided. There is also, of course, the spectrum in between. I've never tried the brand you mentioned, but you might get some guidelines/info by reading the label to see what they say about their processing.

Ditto Celeste & BC.

You are definately better off buying a virgin coconut oil. I get mine from Tropical Traditions online.

Coconut oil contains a fatty acid called Lauric Acid. This fatty acid has antimicrobial properties and is the same fatty acid found in mothers' milk. It is one of the reasons it's better to breast feed than formula feed.

Coconut oil is also said to have a PRO thyroid effect and can help certain people in that department.

Coconut milk does have a few carbs but they aren't "bad carbs" such as bread, pasta, cake, etc. Some people will be able to have it more than others depending on their carb levels.

As for having the coconut oil straight, I don't see why not. My DH used to do that. He's fallen out of the habit of late but used to have a tablespoon in the morning and a tablespoon in the evening before a meal.

Celest, the Walmart brand (Lou Ana, I presume?) is the right stuff. There are two types of oil - VCO (virgin coconut oil) and EPCO (expeller-pressed). Lou Ana is EPCO so it is tasteless and odorless. The VCO has, I'm told, a slight coconut taste which some people (me! ) don't like in all their food. But both, from what I've read, give the same benefits.

You can go to the Tropical Traditions website and read up on both. They have some good info (though I'm not crazy about their EPCO...)

I use it on my face at night! Since doing this I don't need makeup anymore. My skin is so soft, the wrinkles have decreased and the color is wonderful. I've never used anything on my face as good as coconut oil. It's helped my rosacea more in just a few weeks than years of metrogel did!

I haven't used it as a food product yet

That's not really true, you know. The VCO is what will give you the most health benefits when eaten or used in cooking. I use EPCO mostly for my skin. It does work great, huh, Ann?
