:crying: Just when I was really getting back into the exercise groove, I go and break my foot. At least I didn't do it before we went to Florida last month, lol.

Sigh, 6 weeks of no serious weight bearing on the foot.

Time to grab the weights and firm up those bat wings!
I like doing the bat wing exercises...see the "bat wings" challenge thread. They are exercises that can be done lying down on the bed. LOL

Oh, gee, Libby, I'm so sorry! ((hugs!)).

I know that must hurt like crazy - very brave of you to worry about the impact to your exercise regime. But, as a fellow gimp, I well know what you mean. Though not acute like your injury, chronic plantar fasciitis has kept me from my preferred exercise (dancing and walking) since October. I'm sure that's why I've had trouble losing the 5-7 lb gain I've been trying to drop since January.

I wish I'd followed the route Melissa suggests - strengthening and toning. Man, I would have such flat abs if I'd done that, LOL! And, maybe even smaller batwings.

oh man...
sorry to hear that... FIRST because of the pain.. second because of the inconvience... and third because i BELIEVE the CARB GODS want to deter people from exercising regularly.....
poor marykay was in an AWESOME exercise groove ... yep.. the CARB GODS saw it and they had HER have problems too..

take the advice they have given and do what you can to at least keep the exercising MENTALITY... so that when you ARE healthy again... you will just continue on...:-)

get well soon!

Thanks for the kind thoughts all. Yes, most of my strength training I can still do...my Bowflex shall not sit Idle. I will miss my daily walks, which also served to clear my head from the winter doldrums.

that just sucks. Do work on keeping up with whatever weights/toning you can do. It will make it easier to get back into it in the long run.

Oh, Libby! I know how hard it can be to be thrown off your planned activity schedule. Do the best you can with what you've got. As Mary Kay, said, doing ANYTHING in the interim will make it easier to get back on track when your body is ready for it.

Trust me, I know haw hard an injury is...just finally have an almost normal hand again after about 9 weeks of cast, brace and the like! Do what you can...but keep as active as possible or when you can again it will be VERY difficult to do anything.

Mary Kay, you have a way with words! My sentiment exactly.

Libaki, I am so sorry for you! But it sounds like you have your head on straight. Wow, you have a Bowflex. That must be great!

Actually, an injury is what really packed on the pounds for me. Broke my wrist, and one year and two operations later, I gained at least 20 pounds onto my already blossoming figure. But this was before I discovered Atkins . . . .

Sorry about the bad break! Ouch!

However, if you own a Bowflex, you have NO EXCUSE. Keep up with your upper body work, and you'll maintain those bathing beauty arms and fabulous shoulders.

I'm a devoted home exerciser. When I had foot surgery, I used a video called Getting Better by Margaret Richard. It's a sitting-down total body workout that will TOAST you. But I'm guessing a Bowflex offers plenty of challenge.

For others interested, see www.bodyelectrictv.com for all of Margaret's workouts. I use them frequently with excellent results.

I'm so sorry this happened Libby. But it's great you have a Bowflex! You can tone up everything but your legs. And leg muscles recover more quickly than other muscles once you can put weight on them. Hey spring is coming and you may soon have days you can sit outdoors with a glass of iced tea, making people wait on you hand and foot! lol

Hey, Libby! So sorry to hear about your foot! Everyone has given you such great advice, some of which I have already taken for myself! When I got my homegym, I started doing the leg curls and hearing a scraping/popping sound coming from my previously-injured right knee. I've decided now, rather than continue to aggravate it, I will just use the Gazelle and walking for my lower body workouts, and continue to use the homegym for upper body.

Take care of that foot and keep us posted!
