| I don't have my Atkins book with me at work, and I have scoured the website with no luck. Can anyone tell me what percentage of the diet should be fat calories on Atkins? Thanks in advance

| I looked through my copy of DANDR and I don't see any reference to the percentage of fat in the diet. I don't recall reading it in the book or the website for that matter. Atkins really only seems to be concerned with the carb counts. I know some folks here use Fitday and might have an idea what they consume on average.

| As far as I know, there are no specific percentages given for any nutrient. A lot depends on how you tailor the mix to meet your personal needs and goals. On some days, my fat intake can run as high as 65%. While you're learning your way around Atkins, it's enough to concentrate on keeping track of carbs--not forgetting to subtract out the fiber content, to get the maximum benefit from your carb allowance. |

| Barb is right. There is no correct % of fat. Given that carbs are generally less than 10% and protein maybe 20 to 30% that leaves 60% or more of calories from fat. |

| Thanks everybody! Just trying to convince someone that 59% fat was not necessarily a bad thing when doing atkins. Thanks again!

| I (when I check, which is rarely) find I get anywhere from 60 - 70 % from fat. If you're shocked by the calorie count, you needn't be if you're losing ok. If you're not, then it's a signal that you may need to pay a bit more attention to portion sizes and paying good attention to the difference between satisfied and stuffed. Remember, while we have a metabolic advantage, we still need less food as we get smaller. Smaller organism, smaller demand for fuel. You're a smaller organism than when you started, Renee.
