| Hi all- I actually have never posted here before but figured this would be a good time to ask for some advice! Well I have made it past my orignal goal at 123.5. Yesterday I had a very hig carb day and gained 1/2 lb today I didn't do so well. I had my open house today for my business and I had 4 or 5 oatmeal cookies and soem goldfish snacks! YIKES. I know I have room to play but I am really trying to reach 118 or 115 so I ahve about 10 more that I would like to lose. So what do you all do when you have a slip up? I am trying to add on carbs. Should I do one day of 20 carbs then move up to 25 carbs after one day or should I wait longer? Just wondering your advice. I am planning on drinking LOTS of water tonight! Thanks Whitney |

| Which plan are you following and how long have you been on that plan? How many grams of carbs a day have you been eating prior to today's slip?

| Welcome, Whitney. Since you're posting in the Atkins section, I'll guess that you're following the Atkins Nutritional Approach. So I wonder how long you have been in induction, and how long have you been following this program? Certainly it's unusual to go from induction to oatmeal cookies and goldfish. Some extra water sounds like it may be helpful under the circumstances. Tell us a little more about your situation, and I'm sure you'll get much useful advice.

| Okay here I go I started Atkins after having my twins and didn't follow atkins the right way but did get down to 130 and nothing below that. I had my daughter 13 months ago and was at 123.5 after a year. I was coming off of a modifed FF since I had stalled for over 2 months. I know the risks of it and a lot of people don't like it. Which I understand but it did work for me. Not that I recomend it for everyone! Anyhow so I have been having about 20 carbs a day for about a week-would be a week on Mon. I am trying to move into OWL....which I have always been scared of! I use to never count carbs but since I am trying to find my CCLC I ave been very dillegent in counting. So yesterday I went way over and had cookies and today I did the same. To be honest that's not like me. I just had my open house for my new business and I had 4-5 cookies and some goldfish. My question is should I do one day of 20 c then start to add in 5 to see what happens so I can find my CCLC or should I wait a little longer? Did I give enough info??? I have a lot to say!! |

| That helps. I'm pretty sure that two days of cookies and goldfish have knocked you out of ketosis. With that, I'd suggest you consider returning to induction levels for another two to three days or so to regain it. One of the advantages of ketosis is that the appetite is suppressed. It helps to be in that state when one starts to expand one's menu a bit at a time. Then, the most sensible thing to do is to start to gradually expand your menu to include an extra 5 gms of carbs - from slightly better choices than goldfish If you haven't seen it already, this thread may help guide you: http://www.lowcarbeating.com/bb/showthread.php?t=10278 HTH!

| One day isn't enough to decide...you go up incrementally week by week...5 a week til you stop losing...you need to do three or four days of 20 to let the sugar process out of your system before you go back to finding your CCLC.

| Don't fret the 3 lbs. You didn't gain 3 lbs of fat with a few cookies and some goldfish. You are, however, retaining more water, because carbs take a greater amount of water to process. So you hang on to what you need. (also, I have no idea what TOM it may be for you, but that can cause water retention as well.) My suggestion remains that you consider returning to induction levels until you regain ketosis. It generally takes 48 to 72 hours to deplete your glycogen stores sufficiently to switch to a fat burning metabolism. Your keto stick will tell you when you're there.

| Ditto what Maggie said. A few cookies and crackers don't spell 3 pounds of fat in 1 day. It's mostly water retention/bloating. Just get back to induction for a few days and then move on. You are VERY close to goal so there is NO NEED to take drastic measures and do induction for long periods of time. By the way, how tall are you? Are you sure you aren't already at goal and just need to do some toning?

| I am 5'3 and I work out 3x a week doing weights then 25 mins of cardio.....I am pretty good about working out. I was a gymnast before--long long time ago! I do think I should up my cardio doing some tapes here at home in order to stay on top of everything! |

| Well, it sounds to me like you're doing great! Just remember, too many people fall into the trap of "it's never good enough" even after they bust their butt making terrific progress. Somewhere around 115-120 is probably a good weight for your height but don't let yourself go crazy over 5 pounds. It ain't worth it and life is too short! Good luck
