Question TOM and effects on Ketosis

Well I finally went out and got some strips to test for Ketosis. So far I am not noticing a change on them. I never really tested before so this is new to me! Anyhow I am 2 days late for TOM. i know it's coming I can feel the symptoms. Have any of you noticed that you don't stay in ketosis while TOM is near?
I am suppose to move into OWL (after I had my BAD cheat) the only thing is that I may not be in ketosis. Should I move on anyhow?

I also wanted to ask---I chart my temps for my fertility signs and this cycle I didn't ovulate. I use to chart before my daughter and I wasn't ovualting then either. I did ovulate my last cycle but this one I didn't, Has anyone else seen that they weren't ovualting like they had before? Just wondering. I know a lot of people who may not chart but just wondering!
Thanks
Whitney

I would wait until you are sure your body is back in ketosis after the cheat before moving on to OWL. As mentioned before, some people never register on the ketostix. Some only register at certain times of the day. If you are drinking the proper amount of water, that can cause the ketones to be diluted and not show up. So many variables! In the beginning, I used the stix at all times of the day to investigate the best time for me. With me, it was first thing in the AM before I started drinking all my water. The next best time was after a lot of exercise.

Sorry, I can't help you with TOM. I don't have any children of my own!

I think DANDR suggest to check after your evening meal.

Before my month off I would stay in ketosis when I checked during TOM but that's just me. I don't check every day and now with my restart will wait. I agree you should get back into ketosis (if you registered before) after your cheat before moving on.

I never tracked my ovulation by temperature but by knowing my body and had not found any change while on LC.

I've never tracked my temp either so I can't speak to that but, I do know that you cycle can vary and shift ALOT when you change your eating habits. Many people find it takes a few months to shift into a new cycle after beginning low carb or any other eating plan much different than what they were used to.

So I have been testing for ketosis and still not much. I do have a hard time reading the strips! It looks like small amount. I still haven't gotten TOM yet either. I did take a pregnancy test just to make sure--negative--PHEW!!!
I just can't decide if I should move into OWL or not. I never really tested before with the strips. I am still at 124.5. My goal was 125 but it has changed to 118 or 120.
Well got to run.......

twinmom, I used to chart quite extensively when I was trying to get pregnant, now I just keep track of fertility signs. I was low carbing in the years before the birth of my DS. I haven't ever noticed any changes in my pattern since low-carbing. I am just now starting to have changes in the length of my cycle and the frequency of ovulation but I attribute that to getting older (42) more than anything.

I noticed when first beginning this WOE and dropping like 30 pounds in the first couple of months, my TOM was delayed by a couple of days.... changing your eating habits and eliminatnig most carbs will attribute to that as well..... It's a change your body has had to go through. You have such little weight to lose, even if you go onto OWL, you are certain to lose it over time. In the meantime, IMHO, you are foregoing the best part of this WOL..... adding a few extra and nutrious carbs into your WOE.

The thing is that I have been eating like this for 3.5 years. That's why it strange to me.
Do you think I should move into OWL even though I am not getting a postive sign on the testing strips?

if your goal is 118-120 and you're at 124.5, you should have moved on to owl a LONG, LONG time ago. the strips are NOT the final word on progress, but one in a list of many ways to measure progress. at this point, i wouldn't even bother with them myself.

the purpose of the stages of atkins isn't about losing weight as quickly as possible; it's about losing weight as PERMANENTLY as possible. incorporating eating habits into your life forever is what's going to get you there, not being the world's best induction candidtate. up your carbs already!

Have you read the Atkins chapter on premaintenance? I think being so close to goal you should consider starting premaintenance Maybe not immediately but soon. In either case read or re-read that chapter. Also have you read the book Atkins for life? Since you'll be at goal soon (I'm confident) it's almost a must read. You can get a copy from the library if you don't want to purchase one.
