Default quick question for a friday night

hey y'all, it's friday night and the roommates and i are having a fiesta tonight... is there anything alcoholic that i can drink? i'm looking for either a beer or a mixer of some sort.

in the past i've drank either michelob ultra (if i'm feeling beer-y) or sugar free red bull with vodka (if i want something a little stronger). i've also heard that bacardi and diet coke is okay.

i just want to know if there's anything i can drink or if i'm gonna have to lay off, cuz that'll make me sad, especially since i just turned 21.

thanks guys (& gals hehe)!

Default A few general considerations

--Alcohol of any kind is a readily accessible fuel. Any amount you drink will be burned by your body ahead of other calorie or carb sources (like fat), so you might "slow down" the fat-burning process for a while.

--Alcohol provides no nutritional benefits whatsoever.

--Alcohol inhibits the judgment, and might result in indulgences of other kinds, including more alcohol, poor food choices, and...whatever.

--A little alcohol goes a LONG way when you haven't been feeding your body other carbs. You'll feel the effects faster, and you'll feel the consequences more the next day.

--Alcohol doesn't make you any friendlier, happier, funnier, or more socially acceptable on special occasions. Your friends might live to thank you forever if you volunteer as the designated driver.

Happy Friday.

I hear what Barb is saying but I also understand that you are young and if you are are going to drink you need some good advice for it. I wouldn't say don't drink becasue I do myself.

I drink rum and diet coke when I want something alcoholic.

The commercials for barcardi and diet cola are all over TV heralding the no carb drink. I don't drink bacardi but I think any plain rum would do. If you don't like rum then vodka and gin are also no carb choices. Just watch what you mix it with. You can use crystal light in the bottles, I think they use splenda (though I don't worry so much about the nutrasweet with a rare thing like this) and would probably mix well with vodka or gin.

Just don't get goofy and start munching on nachos. :cook:

The other night I had two drinks and got loopy as can be since I had stopped drinking when pregnant and then hadn't drank for a while.

Have fun!

A reprint of one of my old posts....

As an avid drinker myself....

Yes, it will slow your weight loss for a day or two (YMMV) but you can normally rebound afterwards (drink lots of water...). If you can go without, that's the better way.

My LC concoctions:

1. JD and Diet Rite Cola (Diet Pepsi Vanilla is excellent but has aspertame)
2. Vodka/Rum and any of the Diet Rite flavors (Raspberry is my favorite)
3. Vodka/Rum and the Minute Maid Lite juices (mango very good...)
4. JD and the Waist Watchers Root Beer (made with splenda)
5. JD and the Waist Watchers Ginger Ale (made with splenda)
6. LC Margarita (Te-kill-ya, splenda, lime juice, water, ice)
7. Baja Bob's mixes (don't see them around as much nowadays...)

The rum & diet is ok, so is vodka and anything diet. But, as Barb pointed out, it will slow down your fat burning, since your body will go after the "easiest" fuel - which alcohol happens to be.

You've been doing this way of eating for a while, so I'm sure you know that it makes you a sort of "cheap drunk", LOL! Just exercise moderation and common sense, since it does act a bit faster on us low carb types.

Happy Birthday, Leah.

yeah, i haven't been much of a drinker since my freshman year of college... went overboard that year, which is probably where a lot of my weight gain came from. at any rate, i drink about two drinks and i'm good to go. people i hang out with generally count on me to be able to keep a level head. i'm glad the diet drink and vodka/rum/gin is still pretty much okay, though, because i like to be able to go out. in the few months since my bday i've discovered that the bar scene is a lot of fun--especiallly since i'm feeling more confident about my looks and whatnot, because i get hit on a lot and i'll be darned if that doesn't just make me GLOW.

anyhoo, thanks for the suggestions, and don't worry guys i'll take it easy. i'm more responsible than most 21 year olds i know, and trust me, i know my limitations

I usually have a Lemon Gin martini, and a bottle of water for each drink, helps with a hangover too if you overindulge.

Is 21 the age of majority all over the states?

I do that too, I drink diet coke and vodka. I only need two!

Here is my tip: ask for a shot of vodka and a diet coke seperately, it's a bit more expensive but then you can control what the mix ratio is and I put more coke in than the bar person would and it lasts longer!

leah- important for you to know, tho, if you haven't been drinking much since lc'ing: it DOES impact you much faster and harder than when you aren't lc'ing. i don't completely understand the physiology of it, but i know that when you lc, it seems like you drink half as much or even less for the same impact. so please, be careful out there! very important to be aware of.

Hey there!

Well I hope you indulged in at least a drink or two. I find I am more likely to stick to an eating plan if I don't feel like I CAN'T have something. If you feel that you can't have a drink now and again (not everyday, or every week even) then that may impact your psychological being, especially if you enjoy a drink once in awhile. You may not even want to stick to your WOE if you banish yourself from something you like once in awhile.

I work on the gambling system somewhat... If i have something I'm not supposed to have once in awhile, I just get on that elliptical trainer the next day and really pay for it. Not to mention drink TONS of H2O... hehe.

Some people can't take a drink or sugar stuff at all in fear that they will spiral out of control. If you are one of those people...be very careful what goes into your mouth...

Hope you had an enjoyable friday night!

Another thing to note is that if you overindulge (1 or 2 is ok) your liver must process the alcohol and is too busy to do the conversion of protein to glycogen that it would normally do if needed. So your blood sugar may get too low and that can lead to major binges. Don't ask me how I know. :o

Happy Birthday by the way. Enjoy!
