Default What I learned from my stall...

In January of 2004 I began this way of life. I followed DANR to the letter. I watched the pounds just fall off. Come September I returned to my classroom a whole 60 pounds lighter and many sizes smaller.
Then came the stall. Months passed with no decrease in that darn number on the scale. I watched the number go up 5 lbs and down that same 5. I worked hard to keep my cool about it. It time I came to realize that I may not loose much more....Maybe at five foot eight inches I was just meant to be at 185. As time slowly passed with still not a sign of scale movement something strange happened. I grew to like the number on the scale. I did not find it sickening. I could tell people how much I weigh. I know that I am rather heavy for my size. When people try to guess my weight they are usually off by about 30 pounds....so if I look like I am 150 How AWEOME is that.
Now it is June and guess what....The stall is FINALLY over. I am now down to 177. I never thought the scale would move again! and it did! For all of you out there frustrated because the darn scale wont move, I hope that you get some hope from this story. It took an ENTIRE school year for things to move. But with persistance it finally did. And let me tell you that These last 7 pounds feel far more rewarding than the first 20!

Wow--Amy. That's impressive. Your patience and commitment are truly exceptional, and your story is inspiring. Feeling good about yourself where you are is probably the greatest achievement.

Thanks for sharing your celebration! Happy summer.

Amy,
It was wonderful reading this! I've been moving along at a nice clip, but I know a stall is on the horizon somewhere - it's nice to see your persistance and the reward of knowing you stuck to your guns and were rewarded for it. Keep up the good work!

wow amy-a YEAR! and you stayed on track the whole time. that's wonderful!

you know, i've been reading a lot of posts lately where people are thinking more and more about how fast it comes off. not that we all don't do that sometimes, but you know, what a great reminder that it's not about the speed, it's about consistency!

not only that, but in the process, you made peace with your body and yourself, which means that forever, at whatever weight you may be, you're going to be a happier person. i think that's worth a year, even.

congrats on the stall break and you go, girl!

gosh, I needed to hear that... I lost 30 pounds in my first 6 months, unbelieveable! then, nothing. I do not cheat even a taste. My daughter laughs when I tell her to make sure her carbs don't jump on me Anyway, 2 1/2 months- up and down 3 pounds- frustrating. At the end of this month I'm off on vacation to Aruba and I'm very worried about staying cheat free. I go to Aruba every year (for the last 25) so I know what to expect. Daytime I'll be fine, but dinners....Has anyone done little cheats and gotten away with it? I'm thinking of just a little "special" things but of course worried about triggers. Then again, maybe it would push me into losing again. Think I've got enough excuses? any encouragement would be greatly appreciated.... thanks....L

Enjoy your trip and worry about any indescretions later...as long as most of your choices are the right ones a few of the favorite "extras" and not on plan things aren't going to totally ruin the last 8 1/2 months of success...I am still working on getting rid of my May 15th vacation from everything normal make NO good choices vacation...the vacation was worth it but the every meal was a bad choice choice was not such a good one...I am paying for it with about 7 lbs that stuck...I will get them off but it is more work than I like out of this way of life... I have gotten used to this working without much thought and maintaining...now I have to make much better choices and work to lose again...anyway...my suggestion is to make the best choices you can and have fun...just don't take a 4 day total vacation from your senses and eat off plan the whole time...be prepared for those 2-3bls to rejoin you for a few days but vacation only happens once a year right??? Have fun and we will see you on the other end! And yeah...sometimes a few days off plan leads to a few pounds joining those 2 or 3 you ahve to relose when you relose them...I have had it happen a lot that way!

Lori's got it! Go, keep on plan as much as possible, but enjoy yourself! For the two trips I took this year, I planned ahead. I took a bunch of LC bars. Not a great choice, but better than a sugar-laden dessert. I have a little "cold" tote that I take with me on the airplane filled with LC choices. Both trips put on a few pounds, but they came off quickly, even when I indulged in regular pizza. And don't forget to drink all your water. Have fun!

GREAT POST! The true keys to success are patience, persistence and belief in self. Did you know that Thomas Edison failed 9,000 times before inventing the light bulb? What if he had quit after failing 100 times, or a 1000 times, or 8,000 times? Did you know that Colonel Sanders (KFC) was rejected 1,006 times before one person bought a piece of chicken from him? Talk about persistence, patience and belief! You are a true testament to success - good for you for setting a great example.

Amy great post; just what I needed to hear today. I've got down to 173 lbs, which is 72 lbs less than this time last year and 13 lbs from my goal wieght of 160 lbs. That was in Mar. and since than all I have seen is the scale go up and down from 173 to 180 and back down. I can't tell you how frustrated I have felt for the last 3 months. However your post helped me remember the benefits I have gained since I started this WOE such as I feel healthier than I have in years, I go to the gym ever day and excersise at a level I never thought possible, and everybody tells me I look great in my new wardrobe. You helped me realize that this isn't just about numbers on the scale but about healthy choices and feeling good about myself. So I will carry on with this WOE and I'm sure the scale will eventually get to my goal of 160 lbs. Thanks again for the great post.
