| Has anyone introduced the sweet potato into their eating plan? I had half of a small one today as I wanted to carb up, however, when I put it into Fitday it came up with more carbs than a normal white potato. Is this right? Are there any sweet potato eaters here?

| I roast with them with other veggies, make a savory dish. I make them 1-2x a month. The key is a very small portion with an ample serving of protein. Sweet potatoes are loaded with great nutrients and have some fiber. It's one of those YMMV things. Try a very small serving, then make sure it doesn't trigger craving or stall you. |

| My food dictionary (DietPower) shows a 1/2 cup of baked sweet potato with skin as 24.5 g carb and 3 g fiber, for a net of 21.5 grams of carbohydrate. Mashed sweet potato boiled without skin is even higher per 1/2 cup: 40 g. total carbs, 3 g fiber, which is 37 net grams of carb. Either way, that's a bit on the high side for me, but I could see it working for -some people- in the later phases of the diet... maybe, maintenance.

| Well, I seem to be OK today, and let me tell you that half a small one is just the right amount, it really filled me up and I didn't get cravings all night. I had it quite early on during the day too to give me body a chance to deal with it before going to bed. I will try and roast it with other veg next time, it was yummy.

| I agree that those orange vegetables have lots of valuable phytonutrients and vitamins. If your weight stays down for the next day or two, it may be that your system can handle that kind of carby dish. Or, perhaps you got lucky and dodged the bullet - that happens to me on occasion. I eat something that ordinarily would stall me, but somehow it slips by and I don't notice a weight gain. If, in the future, you find your weight loss has stalled, the sweet potato would be one thing to consider cutting back on.
