Default LC Shakes.... I know I know, sugar alcohols.... BUT!!!

Okay, so I know that we have talked about this a million times, and yes, I have the REASONABLE fear of sugar alcohols, but today I stopped into a convenience store and found the Atkins Advantage LC shakes. Now I realize that alot of "LC products" Carb counts are falsely totalled because they manufacturer does not consider sugar alcohols in the total, but the Advantage shakes nutritional label reads like this:

6 g carbs
4 g fiber
1 gram sugar

So what I'm thinking is that even if that "mysterious" gram of carbs is sugar alcohols.... can this brand of shakes be really that bad. I mean, it shouldn't be a mainstay in your eating plan(trust me I've heard it from enough of the veterans... thanks everyone!), but could it really hurt when you are running low on time or other LC options? I guess that the blatent lying of most companies producing LC products has made me lose my faith in ALL of such companies. Anyone got a thought or some experience?

Hi Ironsquirrel!

I definitely think that LC Shakes are a YMMV thing I used them last time I did LC and again the second time around i drink them M-F the powdered ones more economical with NO PROBLEMS. I am not a morning person I fly outta bed tot he shower and leave with a shake in hand every day and it has never affected my ability to lose on this WOE so try and see what happens, for those that it affects you usually notice pretty quickly, and if it does affect your weight lose drink sparingly as a treat.

Very interesting. I used the shakes in the past and, as I recall, there were NO sugar alcohols in the shakes. So, I went to the Atkins site to double check the ingredients and found that all the shakes are listed as "discontinued."

That's amazing. The one product that doesn't have a bunch of suspect ingredients appears to be discontinued. The truly deadly bars and candies, of course, are available as always. Yeesh.

I am hoping that as atkins is only changing the products they carry in their online store and not completely discontinueing their shakes. Previously I had no problem losing while having a shake for breakfast, most mornings as I ran out the door to work. Now I drink them as an occasional sweet treat. My local Walmart still seems to carry them.

There are no sugar alcohols in the shakes...I drink them almost daily...they are filling and work as a great snack between classes since I would be going like 6 hours between meals and I simply can't do that...I certainly hope they don't discontinue the shakes...they are my snack of choice...I think I personally keep them in business! My local Wal-Mart has never been short of them...though I often have to wait on a shipment becasue my favorite flavor (Chocolate Royale) is often gone and they tell me they are popular.

I've never had a prob with the Atkins shakes, and there is nothing in the ingredient list to indicate there are sugar alcohols. They are excellent when I feel i might bite someone's head off if I don't eat soemthing in the next 30 seconds but am in a hurry.

The Atkins warehouse is moving, according to an email i got from them recently...thus, lots and lots of products are either on a really killer sale or seem to be discontinued. I have a hunch that once they are all back up and running, the shakes will reappear. I hope. We buy them in a 12 pack at sams and i think it is about 15.00.

The bars are another story. Bad, bad, bad. Cravings, the toots, the whole works. BAD. :(

I use to drink the advantage shakes, they dont have the sugar alcohols like the bars do. Thankfully because sometimes those SA give me such gastrointestinal distress.

This morning I drank another brand of shake from GNC that my LC buddy gave me. It was in powder form and was a protien and whey shake (I think, it's at home so I don't know exactly). It had 5 grams of carbs less 1 of fiber and no aspartame. Tasted pretty good.

megan-the shakes aren't as bad as the bars. some people do avoid them (like me) because they are expensive and one just makes me want more of the same...but in terms of workability, you should be able to tell if they cause you problems or not.

Ditto above. I think they are fine and use them myself. I always have a couple in the frig at work for a quick snack when I'm busy. They are filling, contain some fiber and are under 200 calories.

I sometimes find my at a liquidator place for $1 a can. If they're being discontinued, I'll have to buy a bunch!

Although, the only flavor I can tolerate is the Chocolate Royale. If there's no Choco royale, forget it!
