Default Wedding Woes (Mot Mine)

Hey low carbing friends.

My best friend is getting married in two weeks time and I will be bridesmaid at her wedding. She bought me the dress herself and I was not present to choose it, I figured though since it was her wedding she could have me wear whatever she wanted if just for one day.

It is a beautiful dress, although I would never have chosen it for myself in a million years as it is straight and very figure hugging, I feel uncomfortable in it. Having to make the best of the situation I am going to try my best to feel good in it so I am just asking for some extra support in the next two weeks so that I don't go off plan!

ALso, any advice on what to wear underneath in order to minimise bumps would be appreciated. I will try and take a photo of it when I can. It is green, knee length and fitted. It has two very thin strap to hold it up.

Alcmene:

I recently bought an outfit for the first time in my life that is kind of fitted. To go underneath it i bought one of those "all in one" slimmers. It has a bra, a midsection slimmer, a brief, all in one and hooks at the crotch. It just kind of holds everything in and smooths, and on me, compressed at least an inch of me. The one I got did not have legs, but they do make them with legs that come down either to mid thigh or just above the knee. I paid $38 US for mine at a department store. Got a size smaller than my regular bra band size to that it would be snug and extra smoothing.

I don't know if you have ever seen the "What Not to Wear" Girls, Trini and Susannah, but they highly recommend "industrial strength undergarments" and I agree.

Im my more staunchly feminist days, I saw girdles and such as "oppressive tools of the patriarchy". But I'm a believer now!

Good luck!

P.S. I just notice the part about the straps--they do make stapless ones of these.

We're here for you, Alcmene

I was going to suggest the same thing for you with the undergarments. They make great almost seamless ones now that aren't so much to hold you in but to smooth you out. I've found this strapless body wrap that might work for you. Sometimes it's nice to have legs though like this one long legged girdle which is a bit more pricey but I'm sure the results are great and you can use it with or without straps.

The important thing is that you feel comfortable. So if you need something for that extra boost of confidence in your fancy dress than you should have it.

I'm sure you'll do well these next couple weeks with all the support you'll receive here. And you'll look great in the dress with a great attitude.

Alcmene--
I agree with Cushie and Jooneezgrl. If you decide to get one of those jammies...they are great...BUT--it might be best to bring the dress and try a few of them on to make sure they give you the right *look*. I bought one once and I couldnt wear it. It smoothed me out, so to speak, but then I had a buldging ridge around the top of my back. You know, now that I'm trying to describe it, I'm not quite sure how I managed to do that. Maybe it was too tight? The wrong style for the dress?

Shoot, now I need a little help. Cushie and Jooneezgrl....any response?

Definitely take the dress when you shop for the smoother. Bet you'll look beautiful for the wedding. But we all know who the star is, so focus on your friend's happiness, and you'll have a great time.

I've liked my Spanx undergarments: http://www.spanx.com/pls/enetrixp/!stmenu_template.main

They are pricey, but they seem to hold up quite well. You can order them online, but I think the advice to take your dress along to the fitting is a really good idea. Here's a list of retailers that carry Spanx: http://www.spanx.com/pls/enetrixp/!stmenu_template.main?complex_id_in=477024.488866. .488866.cat

One thing that I would add is that since your dress is knee-length, you might not want to get a long-legged model of smoother since the legs might show when you are sitting as the skirt will pull up some (I say this from personal experience.) As the others have mentioned, definitely shop with your dress so that you can see if this sort of thing happens.

Thanks for all the advice everyone! I actually have a teddy (is that what they are called) that I have had for a while but it falls down without straps and you get VPL on this dress when I tried it on. The one with legs sounds great but I sure gotta be careful you cann see them when I sit down. I have been looking round the shops I cannot believe how expensive these undergarments are, it is definately an industry on its own.

Just my two cents.

I cannot seem to find them in the UK, only online! I am a bit fearful of getting some online and they won't fit, I might just get the hosiery though, anyone tried it?

Heya!

My friend tried the hosiery and she like them too, but she also has a pair of the "higher power" panties and says that they did a MUCH better job in holding her in and making her look sleek and slimmer.

The general hosiery may be what you are looking for, but I'd pay the extra and get the "higher power" panty....those are the BOMB.

I am a size 10 and fit well into the "C" size. I also have the "D" size which I am looking to sell because they are for someone taller and would be better for a size 12-14. If anyone would like to purchase these from me let me know, they have been tried on one time and are still in the box they came in.
