Cool midnight snacking

I have acquired a new problem the last couple of days I have woke up in the middle of the night to go to the bathroom and ended up munching down on a chocolate cookie one night and an entire deal of rolos the other night. I dont usually roam to the fridge but I guess I had wanted them really bad and next thing you know I ate them all. I would normally think dont keep them in the house but my mother in law thinks im depriving my husband and sends them over as she cant eat them she has diabetis my husband wouldnt be very happy if I threw his favorite homemade cookies in the trash. The will power is pretty strong during the day but I didnt even consider it in the middle of the night. My daughters not here she usually takes stuff and hides it for me.

Any advise on the midnight munchies????
Thanks in advance,
Debra

Have your husband hide the goodies.
If you are hungry in the middle of the night, eat a piece of cheese, hb egg, a handful of nuts. Eat foods ON your plan, not OFF the plan.

Have on plan snacks available to you-hard boiled eggs, cheese sticks, even a carrot stick or whatever...and yeah-I agree...have DH hide them from you if you are prone to eating at night...or anytime...he will remember where they are if he wants one!

Having him hide the goodies is a great idea.

Sometimes when I eat at night I barely remember it...like sleep eating. I think gosh I did well and then think, wait I had _______ late last night.

Then of course when you start snacking on bad foods it's a tough cycle to break. But you can do it!

I used to tell my non Lcing family that they had 1 hour to clear the place of the goodies, hide them well or in the trash they go, and even though they grumbled they did it, and my dh tried to make a big deal of it but I calmly told him where certain foods are concerned I have no control and either way it woud be gone, in my belly, in the trash?? I no longer have that problem
Good luck

It's good advice a) to get rid of the stuff, and b) to lay in a supply of legal snack foods.

One other thing, though. Sooner or later you're going to have to ditch the "I have no control over it" attitude.

The world is full of temptations, in case you haven't noticed. Whether you're "sleep eating" or mindlessly sticking your hand out when you pass the goodie plate at the office (and isn't there ALWAYS a goodie plate??), or having to hang around a vending machine for two hours at the car repair shop when your snack attack kicks in. You're going to have to claim your power to choose.

YOU CAN DO THIS.

Yes, and when you do, you are empowered. At least I am. If I choose to eat carby foods, then I recognize it as MY CHOICE. And, by the same token, when I choose to eat what I know is good for me, I recognize it as MY CHOICE. When I claim the power to own my choices, I feel victorious.

And that's a good feeling.

hey debra- lots of good advice and thoughts here i won't repeat. in addition, if you simply refuse to get rid of the sugar, then maybe you could throw them in the freezer so they aren't immediately availble on the way to the restroom.

what i would add: how about having a talk with your husband? have you asked him to keep this crap out of the house even? just eat it elsewhere when he wants it? it's been my experience that most husbands do in fact love their wives and want them to be happy and healthy. while he may not be thinking of it that way now, spelling it out may make a difference. excess weight causes a host of health problems and shortens your life. if she knows it's going into the trash, she WILL quit sending it home.

but the bottom line is, if you're motiviated to deal with the issue, you can and will. sometimes it takes imagination and frank talks with folks around you, but it IS important and it does matter. and if they understand that, they will often come through for you.

good luck to you!

thanks for all the advise it is like sleep eating I work around candy and cookies all day and dont crave at all and it wasnt a craving its hard to describe but I definately take the responsibility of eating it I just didnt understand why I was up at 2 am shoving a cookie in my mouth I pulled the cookies out yesterday and offered them to company but they didnt take them either they are refridgerator cookies otherwise theyd have been thrown in dh's drawer by now Im very dissapointed in myself though cause Id been doing fairly well. It stinks because the cookies were not worth the pound and a half that came with them. Anyways thanks for all the advise I guess I just need to wake my self up more and think clearer. Couldnt do this without this website and everyones posts it helps support me soooo much. Definately found the sweets cause cravings my stomach was giving me all sorts of chaos today. Live and learn usuallly the hard way!!!!
Thanks again,
Debra

Well, as for the pound and a half--it isn't a permanent weight gain, just the water that comes along with the extra carbs (glycogen). Unless, of course, the cookie trend continues.
