Default Need Splenda...

(hey, I'm back...)

Help! I need liquid Splenda. My hoard of zero-carb-syrup hath run dry.

It appears that locarber.com doesn't exist anymore. (sob)...

I see that SweetzFree is still around. Before I order from them, can somebody tell me if Trish moved her business somewhere else or if she just folded up? I know she had problems filling the last order I received, which was many months ago.

I prefer the zero-carb syrup to Sweetzfree because Sweetzfree is so potent, and it's a mess having to dilute it. But if Sweetzfree is all that's left, I'll go for it.

Any advice, here?

Hi, Dr. I.

Trish folded. Sweetzfree has some kind of "land grab" thing going where she offers it once a month and it's gone in the first five minutes.

Henry, one of our members, has a source in Australia. I've just ordered from him and he seems very competent and nice. He sells industrial strength stuff with instructions to dilute it to something like Trish's (locarber) product.

I've PM'd you with the contact info.

Has anyone tried to develope a recipe for Liquid Splenda? Seems like you should be able to add powdered Splenda to a small amount of Purified or distilled water to the consistancy you want. Only make what you need. Should be loads cheaper too.

The problem with that, Tom is that the reason people want liquid splenda is that it doesn't contain the maltodextrin and other stuff that they have to add to sucralose to make it usable as a dry product. Pure sucralose in, say, a packet would be just a couple of tiny grains that may or may not shake out after you open it. So they add the other stuff as fillers. The fillers are where the carbs come from. Consequently, Splenda has carbs. A bit less than one gm. per packet and about 24, if I remember correctly, in a cup of the pourable variety.

Liquid splenda is nothing more than sucralose. No fillers, no carbs. It's about the only truly zero carb artificial sweetener there is. That's why people want it. It's beyond me why they won't market it. We've pestered and petitioned McNeil Labs (who market Splenda in North America) in the past to no avail.

p.s. Love your avatar!

Gotcha. Now I understand. I use so little sweetener that I guess I just haven't thought about it. Only really use it to make LC cheesecake. mmmm!
And thanks on the avitar. Taken from my favorite movie.

One of my favorites, too. And the whole Flying Circus tv series.

Thanks, Maggie. I will look into that, forthwith.

McNeil Labs is being really stubborn about that. BUT (here's the good part)... Their patent on Splenda runs out next year. Which means there will be a multitude of generic forms of Splenda in our future, some of which will almost certainly be liquid... and CHEAP.

Here's hoping! (Good to see you back, Doc.)

Good to know that Henry's source is a good one. I got the info from him, but haven't ordered yet.

Do you know if the DaVinci syrup on this page is really the same as the liquid Splenda? This store is local to me - and they seem to have a great variety.... I never knew liquid Splenda existed!!!

It is not the same as liquid splenda. The DaVinci syrup is much more diluted than liquid splenda. For example, 1 cup of the Davinci syrup would equal approximately 1 cup of sugar. For the liquid splenda syrup I make from the concentrated liquid splenda, 2 tsp equals 1 cup of sugar.

By the way, I got my concentrated Splenda from the gentleman in Australia. I haven't had a chance to try it, yet, but it was delivered in a timely manner. It looks like dilution is going to be a problem, but not one I haven't had to deal with before, heh.

Katie, you don't have your preferences set up to accept PM's.

If you do that, and pm me, I'll be happy to send you the info.

Well, I did a little digging and found this site selling something called Zero Carb Syrup Base, and claims that it is made from Splenda.

I'll keep digging...
