| Lately, most of my friends and familly are telling me that this WOE is great to lose weight, but is not a healthy thing to do forever! Is this fact or fiction. My familly has really bad genes and most of us are fat. I'm begining to wonder if they're not jealous of my success?(even though I have been trying to get them to try this since I started) |

| Fiction.....as long as you are 1. eating enough 2. drinking enough water 3. taking your supplements This WOE is safe. You will probably move on to more carbs when you are ready but then you will be ready to find out what your carb limits are. There is nothing wrong with an occasional potato or pasta after all the extra weight is gone. Do not go back. I know and I regret I let others sway me from a healthy way of life. Keep going girl!! |

| I have never felt, or eaten, healthier than I am now. I have way more vegetables now than I ever ate in the past. My heartburn is totally gone. I am sure more veterans will be along to share.

IMO, that's a false as long as one is following a good LC plan. By good LC plan, I mean one that includes lots of veggies, enough protein, good fats, and no refined sugars or transfats. By good fats, I mean natural fats like olive oil, nuts, real dairy products. It's probably a good idea to take a multi-vitamin (regardless of what diet you follow) and calcium supplements for women over the age of 35 (that's what my OB/GYN generally recommends regardless of eating habits). You know that in the maintenance phase you can add back many higher carb foods as long as they don't cause food cravings and weight gain? It's a personal thing - what high carb foods you can safely add back. I can eat a little bit of potato on occasion, but I think pasta will always be a no-no for me. I've been doing this since early 2002. Last week, I got my latest cholestrol test results and they were just fine - I had high HDL (good cholestrol) and very low triglycerides. :great:

| Fiction, IMHO. I'm coming up on my seventh year now. I lost a third of myself. I stopped my type 2 diabetes in its tracks. All my lab tests are perfect, a big change. My arthritis has improved considerably. I have a nice even level of energy and metal acuity all day long. I have felt better in this last seven years than I did in many years prior to this WOE. I notice that those who follow a low carb program for years and years, generally have nothing but positive health results. Those who are happy to trash it are (again, generally speaking) those who prefer not to follow this way of eating because they don't really want to change anything about how they eat. Your family is simply trying to share with you their rationalization for choosing to remain in their present state. Don't let them stop you from improving your health. Do the research. It does not support their position.
