Why did I resist this way of life for so long?
Why did I poo-poo supporters while they sang the praises?
Why did I let myself suffer for sooo long?

Well not any more. After doing low carb on and off for 12 plus years I've seen the light. I was buying and cooking for myself (low fat) and recently started helping my husband (low carb). So I was buying two of everything and cooking two different meals. Talk about crazy. I was at my wits end, so I started reading up on "low carbing". I liked what I was reading and decided to eat up all the carbs in the house. When the carbs were gone, we'd start a low carb lifestyle. I ate faster than planned and we started on 9/26 quicker than I planned. My birthday is this weekend and my anniversary is the next weekend. This wouldn't work, I thought, this is poor planning. But my husband said that's just life we've got to start and stop making excuses.

I waited, which was the hard part, and weighed myself after one full week.

Are you ready..... I lost 11 pounds, in one week.
My husband lost 7...

I never once felt hungry. I downloaded some wonderful recipes and the entire family loved them. I'm only cooking one meal.

I'll never look back. This isn't a diet. This is new healthy way our family is now embracing.

I had to share. Thanks for all the supportive stories.

Welcome Kym! Doing LC as a whole family should be great for all of you. The mutual support base is there. No Temptation by having "Bad" stuff around for others. I wish you ALL well on your journey.
This is a fantastic site for support and information. I've found no equal.
Post often.

Yes, welcome, Kym! I love to read posts like yours; it does my heart good to hear of people getting thinner and healthier AND enjoying the process. It's great, too, that your whole family is joining in...like Tom said, it makes it easier when you all support each other.
Congrats on your success so far, and post often and let us know how you're doing!!

Oh Kim, and if you like to cook, there are sooooooooo many great things you can eat low carbing... We have become veggie fans and enjoy REAL mayonnaise, REAL sour cream, REAL butter, all kinds of meats, fowl and fishes... The thing I love so much about this WOE (way of eating) is that you discover that you are suddenly eating what YOUR BODY IS SUPPOSED TO EAT!! no preservatives, no colorants, no processed foods, no chemicals - imagine! It's what human being have been eating for the last 15 million years (uh, until the big agribusinesses and food giants started to fool around with everything!!). Just good honest, delicious food.

Congrats - and very cool to have you here!

I have asked myself all those questions and keep asking when I goof. Why leave this WOE??? It's so good and I feel so great.

I'm glad you are joining us, Kym Sue. Congrats on your loss to date and continued success.

For sure the WOL for the entire family is critical. Of course friends and family have been concerned that the kids aren't eating healthy. I simply tell them what they ate the day before. That's when I see the wheels turning, they're getting it. My Mom said when she gets back from her cruise she wants to see what the "carb" thing is all about. She spends a lot of time with us so it will really work for her.

Opps I weighed myself this morning, but I won't be doing this daily... I know better. But I did loose a pound. Yeah.

Thanks for all the encouragement. I don't want to tell people what we're doing because people who don't understand get so nervous for you. So I'm waiting until they notice, by then I'll have my response well versed.

Thanks again.

Instead of saying I low carb I usually just say that I cut out white flour and sugar. For some reason it sounds better and people don't freak out so much about it. Welcome to you!

Few people launch low-carb with an epiphany like yours! A lifestyle indeed. I'm sure your whole family will benefit from your enthusiasm.

Best wishes.

Kym...I can relate to the 'family' questions...my eight year old knows that alot of sugar isn't good for her...she drinks a TON of water...and asks for water...and is just awesome! I tell everyone we eat 'whole foods'....if it was walking around at some point, or growing out of the ground - it's fair game.... avoids the 'low carb' stereotype that lots of people get stuck on....but it's hard for them to argue when I have salad every day...and they don't....or green beans...and they haven't even SEEN anything green other than the grass.... *laughing*

Well, regardless of what anyone says, I am eating SO much healthier than when I wasn't doing this WOE. When I wasn't, I was doing the FFWOE. Fast food, that is. NOT GOOD AT ALL!!! I could eat out for every meal. Now I have salads, veggies, lean meats and fatty ones, eggs, etc. not just burgers and fries all the time!
