Unhappy No progress

I've been doing pretty much what I was during my induction and my weight has stayed the same.

Here's what I ate yesterday.

2 fried eggs

2/3 slices of bacon

tuna salad (mayo, tuna, pickle, celery) over lettuce

Low carb popsicle

Chicken breast

Lettuce with cheese salad with low carb ranch

Pork rinds with cream cheese

Diet coke with rum

I lost 11 pounds in the first two weeks. Basically I've been eating the same but nothing has happened on the scale.

9/26 start 225

10/10 214

Currently I to between 211 and 214 as of 11/15.

I had a couple glasses of champagne at a Sunday brunch, but other than that I haven't come close to cheating. I haven't had any rice, flour, potatoes, starches, etc.

The worse thing I've had is the "low carb" ice cream or popsicles.

Normally my sweet thing is sugar free jello with some whipped cream.

And before you ask I drink a minimum of 60 ozs of water a day. Normally it's 90 ozs. And no I haven't exercised.

Any suggestions?

A couple of things...

#1 - Although hard alcohol is allowed on low carb, you should be aware that your body treats it very differently. All alcohol calories have to be burned off before your body can return to burning fat. With that said, if the rum is a daily thing, you're slowing yourself down.

#2 - It is NORMAL to hit a plateau for a few weeks after induction. This allows your body to recover from the large amount of weight that is normally dropped during induction. If it didn't stop and readjust now and then, you'd have lots of droopy saggy skin when you hit goal

kym-sorry to hear you're experiencing a slowdown (pause), although it's not uncommon after induction. sounds like you're doing most things right.

my suggestions:

1. no lc ice cream or junk food at all. i know the stuff tastes good, but it's a common problem and cause of slowdowns and stalls. heck, if i eat too much of the stuff, i gain on it, so i know. maybe save it for the maintenence.

2. up your carbs. while this is counter-intuitive, many folks find that upping their carb levels after induction will actually spur new losses. i've seen this many, many times. go ahead and move into owl, at least adding 5 carbs a day, and see if it doesn't help.

3. stay away from ALL alcohol while you're trying to lose, or at least understand that any alcohol will very likely knock you out of ketosis and keep you from losing for a few days. so if you have maybe one or two drinks a week, that could be enough to keep you from losing at all. again, this is something i would save for maintenece, or at least understand that when you do decide to drink, that will give you a "pause" for a few days.

4. be aware of calories. while you usually don't have to watch calories on lc, some foods will be problemmatic, especially when your losses have slowed down. personally, if i over-do cream cheese, heavy cream or nuts, i don't lose an ounce.

5. consider adding some activity, if you don't already. sometimes, that can be the difference that pushes you over the edge to losing again, and it helps tone as you're losing as well.

most important, though: don't give up! it's very normal for people to experience slowdowns and stalls at different points, and if you ride it out, you'll most likely see those losses come back. we're pulling for you! good luck.

What goddess said.

The beginning is hard, because our expectations are so high. Try to keep in mind that you're learning a new way of eating FOR LIFE, and not just a temporary diet. Take your time, and gradually, you'll figure out what works best for you. For now, however, it's a good idea to follow the plan to the letter as best you can--and that means no alcohol and no so-called low-carb treats. Fresh foods only. People who try to replicate their old eating patterns with substitute diet foods usually don't succeed for the long term.

For me, a food diary is a very important tool. I use Fitday.com (also a learning curve in the beginning!) but there are other methods.

Best wishes.

Thank you all so much for the encouraging words and helpful hints.

I have no plans on "failing". This way of eating seems to be something I can easily follow, considering that I haven't had one piece of halloween candy, chip, bowl of pasta, etc.

I really need to start exercising... I just HATE exercising. But I know there's no quick fix. Calories in vs. calories out... I know. I just keep hoping for the magic pill.

Well I'm camping this weekend, so this will be a real test. Wish me luck.

Best of luck on your camping trip. Bring things like nuts to nosh on when others are eating chips. LOL!

Calories do count, but not the way they do on a regular low-fat/low cal diet. The research shows that there IS what Dr. Atkins called a "metabolic advantage" to low carbing. In other words, it's been shown repeatedly that those on a low carb diet can lose weight on a higher calorie diet than those who are simply restricting calorie intake. There is better compliance, too, since the higher fat content - and the absence of blood sugar swings - doesn't leave people feeling hungry.

For many people, who do not have impaired satiety feedback system, the Atkins rule of thumb - eat until satisfied, not stuffed - is sufficient to get appropriate portion control. For those who can't easily "re-train" that system, counting calories provides that feedback.

Have a great weekend.

you can try to boil the egg, not fried.

Drink some green tea 30 min after the meal will help too.

From your diet I think you should cut some acidic food

I would like to contribute to this posting too.
I got off my induction, and got disappointed - weight gain 3 lbs! for 7 days post induction. I am not giving up, this is just my start, and I will succed! I just want to have understanding of my body and what is happening at this point with my metabolism. I am up to about 25-30 gm of carbs /day and I don't do any prohibited foods. No sweets, No alcohol, No starches or bread, No pasta, and nothing but Splenda. I will Not weight myself anymore for about 2 weeks and see how I do than. I am working on it, will try to do more acitivities too - excersise.
More suggestions? Cannot quiet coffee. Love it. No milk-just Splenda.
